Benton Weekly Update

Welcome Back! I hope all of our students and families had an enjoyable, restful break with family and loved ones. Thanksgiving is always my favorite holiday as it's a time to reflect on our blessings and be together with people whom we love whether family or good friends. Our Cheer Team got together over the break and celebrated Friendsgiving, and I hope all of our Benton families were able to do the same.

It is hard to believe that it's already December and we have just three weeks left of the semester. Students, do your best to finish strong!

Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of Silver's Secret. I hope you had a chance to see our fall play. It was a humorous show with some great acting, filled with pirates, mermaids, fish, an octopus, and lobsters! Theatre fans can look forward to A Christmas Carol coming up December 16th & 17th. Keep an eye out for an announcement about auditions for our spring musical, Matilda!

On Wednesday this week will will have a special presentation at our Homeroom Assembly. In addition to announcing Students of the Month and recognizing students with Perfect Attendance, we will have a presentation from Apple in recognition of our Apple Distinguished School Award. Woo-hoo!

On Friday this week, our Advanced Music Ensembles will perform in the Winter Concert at the Excelsior Auditorium. The concert begins at 6pm. The Excelsior Auditorium is in Norwalk on Alondra Blvd. just west of Pioneer. Traffic can be a little heavy at that time, plan your trip accordingly.

Next week on Wednesday, 12/11 at 5:00pm, Beginning Music Ensembles will perform in their Winter Concert at Benton. The Art Gallery will be open prior to the concert from 4:15-5:00pm.

Open Enrollment begins in December. If you have a student entering 6th Grade or 9th Grade and wish to attend a school that is not your school of residence, you will need to complete an Open Enrollment Application online. Returning 7th & 8th Graders do not need to reapply for a permit. At Benton, we appreciate the opportunity to share our unique programs with prospective families and students. Students will attend periods 5B – 8B on Wednesday. This Wednesday, like all Wednesdays, we have early dismissal at 1:45pm.

If you are interested in finding out more about NJAHS, be sure to attend the informational meeting after school on Friday in Room 82.

Advanced Ensembles of Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Guitar will perform at the Excelsior Auditorium in Norwalk (Pioneer & Alondra) on Friday, December 6 at 6pm.

Do you need to make up an absence or get caught up on school work? Be sure to attend Saturday School on 12/7 from 8:00am-12:15pm. Permission Slips are available in the office and linked below.

The concert begins at 5:00pm OUTSIDE in the Quad for Band & Orchestra, and in the Benton MPR for Chorus and Guitar. You can visit the Art Gallery from 4:15-5:00pm before the concert begins.

The last day of school is Thursday, December 19th, which is a minimum day with dismissal at 1:15pm. Students return to school on Tuesday, January 7th.

After a hiatus by some Green Team members due to their commitments to the school play, Mock trial, National Junior Honor Society, and athletics, they are now back. Congratulations

to the successes in the arts, sports, Mock Trial, and NJHS! Now, we will be in full swing in eco activities!

8th Grade Students and Families, we have a newsletter curated just for you! The 8th Grade newsletter contains information specific to you, 8th Grade Students and Families, to help you make the most of 8th Grade, and to plan for the end of the year. Click here to read the 8th Grade Newsletter.

Parents, please help us by checking your student's outfit before they leave for school. If students are out of dress code, the students may be asked to change into P.E. clothes or a loaner shirt or shorts.

As you can see below, we have A Days and B Days. Students have periods 1A-4A on A Days, every Monday and Thursday, and periods 5B-8B on B Days, every Tuesday and Friday. On Wednesdays, we alternate between A Days and B Days.
