News from Candice News from Candice

Hello Cougar Families!

If you see me with an extra-large coffee at drop-off this week, just know it’s powered by pure excitement for all the fantastic learning happening across our building. Our students have been working hard, bringing boundless energy, and keeping all of us on our toes in the best way possible. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead filled with quality family time!

Halloween Plan

This year we will continue our tradition for Halloween with a parade and classroom parties. On Friday, students can wear their costumes to school in the morning. We will begin our parade around 9:40 am. We would love to have you come and enjoy the festivities. Please be lined up between the drop off lane at the front of the school all the way around through the Windridge bus lane. Classroom parties will immediately follow. When parties are over, students will need to change out of the costumes and back into their regular clothes. Costumes should not include face paint or weapons. Happy Halloween!!

Veterans Day

On November 11th, we are excited to celebrate Veterans Day, a time when we honor the selfless dedication of the people who protect our freedoms. It is a heartfelt tradition here at CME to bring our community together for this important celebration.

This year, we are changing things up a bit! We would like to warmly invite any family member who is a Veteran to join us for a whole-school special ceremony on November 11th to honor their service. It’s a meaningful way for our children to personally connect with the sacrifices made for our country. The assembly will be held at 8:45 am on the 11th. We are looking forward to seeing you all here in the gym!!

We also want to create a stunning display of appreciation. In today's Thursday folder, you will find a form to spotlight a Veteran in your family (past or present). Please fill it out and include a copy of a photograph (no originals please) so we can publicly honor their service.

Thank you for helping us teach our students the value of service and for sharing your heroes with us.

Have a beautiful day!

With gratitude,

Candice

ORIGINAL WORKS ART FUNDRAISER!

We’re excited to announce that we will be partnering with Original Works this Fall, the original art-based fundraising company!

Students created artwork at school and you can have your child’s art reproduced onto a variety of keepsake products ranging from Mugs to Magnets.

Ordering will be done online through Nov. 17, 2026.

The products make great holiday gifts and birthday gifts for family members as well as wonderful keepsakes for the students.

Orders will arrive at school in early December.

And the icing on the cake is our school earns a profit from every order placed!

Complete details on how to order and a preview of your students artwork will be sent home today in Thursday folders.

Thank you for supporting this unique and creative program!

Please reach out to Mrs. Burke at kburke@dcsdk12.org with any questions.

However, exciting news — if the Rapids make the playoffs, I’ll be extending this offer to those games as well! We’re hoping to keep the excitement going beyond the regular season and give even more students the opportunity to cheer on the Rapids!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS -

Does your child love to read and remember details from books? Does your child work well in small groups? Is your child up for the challenge of answering quiz type questions about books?

If so…

Come join the Copper Mesa Elementary Battle of the Books Club!! Battle of the books is a voluntary reading competition for students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Students who choose to participate will read from a list of 10 books, and will compete by answering questions testing their knowledge of the books read. We will compete as a team against teams from other elementary schools.

Club meetings are most Thursdays after school, beginning October 22 from 3:30 - 4:15pm. in Mrs. Hollist’s Classroom. The cost is $40 and will include participation in all team meetings, 4 battles, a T-shirt, and an end of season party.

Battles will be held at the Lone Tree Library on a weeknight evening, once a week (Tuesday or Thursday) starting the week of January 25th. The official schedule will be posted around Thanksgiving break.

Each child who wants to battle will have to commit to reading 8 of the 10 books on the list. We will talk more about ‘expert books’ as we continue.
