August 12th
Bonnie's Message
Welcome Back, Raider Families!
The countdown is almost over! We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to campus for the first day of school on Thursday, August 13. We hope your family has enjoyed the summer and is ready for a wonderful new school year at BMMS.
School Starts Thursday, August 13 @ 8AM
Our first day of school is Thursday, August 13, and it is important that students arrive on time and are ready to begin the year with us. On Thursday, August 13, and Friday, August 14, students will attend all seven periods, and we will follow our Monday/Tuesday bell schedule on both days.
Most importantly, please make every effort to have your student at school every day and on time. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. Every class, every lesson, and every day matters, especially as students establish routines and begin learning from the very first day.
Safety & Support on Campus
We know that the first days of school can bring excitement, questions, and a few nerves — particularly for students who are new to BMMS. Please reassure your student that they are not expected to know everything right away.
All of our educators will be visible throughout campus during the school day to help students find their classrooms, answer questions, provide directions, and make sure everyone knows where they need to be. Our goal is for every student to feel safe, supported, and confident as they navigate the first days of school.
Families can also help by reminding students to follow campus expectations, listen carefully to staff directions, and make safe choices throughout the school day.
Arrival & Dismissal Safety
Please allow extra time for drop-off and pick-up, particularly during the first few days as everyone becomes familiar with routines.
Drive slowly, remain patient, and keep a close eye out for students and pedestrians around campus. Student safety is our shared responsibility, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us create a safe arrival and dismissal process.
Parents and guardians may drop students off in the designated areas. Once your student has been dropped off, please do not remain on campus or enter through the gates. This allows our staff to maintain a safe and organized environment for all students.
👉 TIP: We highly recommend making a plan with your child for a designated pick-up location after school (at 2:35 PM) to avoid confusion and stress.
Stay Connected with BMMS
Throughout the school year, we will use several ways to keep families informed and connected.
Mrs. Gonzalez’s Weekly Update is our weekly newsletter and an important communication tool we use to share school news, reminders, upcoming events, and important information with families.
Please also be sure to follow us on Instagram: @BMMS_Raiders for additional school updates and highlights.
If you happen to miss an email containing the weekly update, don't worry! Mrs. Gonzalez’s Weekly Update is also posted on our school website under “Communication.” We encourage families to check these communication channels regularly so you don't miss important information.
Let’s Make It a Great Start!
The beginning of a new school year is an exciting time, and we are thrilled to have our Raiders back on campus. Thank you for partnering with us to prioritize safety, attendance, preparedness, and communication from day one.
We are ready, our staff is excited, and we can't wait to see our students on Thursday, August 13!
Welcome back, Raiders! Let's make it a great year!
Your proud principal,
Bonnie Gonzalez

MCHS GATE - Campus Security
As a reminder, please be advised safety and security concerns of both Black Mountain MS and Mt Carmel HS campuses, and in consistency with our districtwide standards for health and safety, the footpath between BMMS and MCHS will not be open for student use at dismissal. Students may still use the MCHS path to access BMMS before school from 7:30-8:00am each day, but the gates will be locked at all other hours. At 2:35pm Dismissal and later following activities, all students are required to leave the campus through the BMMS FRONT EXITS ONLY. All other access points will be secured.
Thank you for supporting a safe campus at BMMS!
