ELEMENTARY INFORMATION
A Message from Elementary Director Mr. Anderson
Hi Families,
Happy Friday, my friends! One of the best parts of my week is getting into classrooms. Recently, I’ve watched our young students give it all they have as they learn new things and older students work through math problems and practice new skills. I appreciate our teachers helping things click and our kiddos sticking with it when learning takes some practice!
Next week, you’ll get to see some of their creativity at our art show during Parent-Teacher Conferences. I’m looking forward to celebrating their progress with you. Your perspective matters, and hearing what you’re seeing at home helps us better support your child.
I want to take a minute to share something that means a lot to me. As much as I want our kiddos to grow in reading, writing, and math, I care even more about the people they’re becoming and how they treat one another. I want every child to walk through our doors knowing, “I belong here, and people care about me.” Our **RISE UP values—Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, Unity, and Patriotism—**give us a way to put that into practice each day, and it takes all of us—school and home—to help those values become habits.
Respect is how we speak to someone, especially when we disagree. Integrity is doing the right thing when our friends are doing something else. Service is noticing someone needs help and stepping in. Excellence includes giving our best effort to being a good classmate. Unity means making room for others and remembering we’re all ALA Eagles. Patriotism reminds us to contribute to our community and care for the people in it.
Please take a minute and talk with your kiddo about what that looks like at school: inviting someone into a game, refusing to join in on teasing, or checking on a classmate who’s having a hard day. Ask them, “Who did you help feel included today?” When our families and staff model these same values and work together, our kiddos see what unity looks like. That’s how we build a school we’re all proud to be part of.
Parent-Teacher Conferences — October 23rd
Conferences are Friday, October 23rd, from 1:00–6:00 p.m. Please reserve a time through your child’s teacher. Bring your questions, share your perspective, and let’s celebrate what’s going well while making a plan for any needed support.
There will be no Friday Support on October 23rd.
Dual Immersion Parent Teacher Conferences follow a little different schedule. Please see below.
Art Show Volunteers & Conference Activities
Our art teacher could use a few volunteers to help set up the October 23rd art show. Please contact the front office if you can lend a hand, and we’ll coordinate a time. Thank you for helping our kiddos share work they’re proud of! Here is the link to sign up to volunteer Volunteer Sign Up
While you’re here:
Student Art Show: Enjoy our students’ artwork in the gym.
Title I Family Literacy Event — Bake & Book Sale: 4:00–6:00 p.m., gym or library.
Lost & Found: Check the items displayed in the hall before remaining items are donated. Let’s get those missing jackets home!
A Friendly Dress Code Reminder
Please help us with a quick clothing check before your kiddos head out the door. Collared shirts should be solid white, navy blue, red, or gray. Black and burgundy shirts aren’t approved shirt colors.
On Thursday Spirit Days, students may wear blue jeans without holes with a regular dress-code shirt or approved ALA spirit wear.
As cooler weather arrives, remember that outerwear worn inside must be ALA-issued or solid white, red, gray, or navy blue, with a collared shirt underneath and hoods down. Thank you for helping keep expectations consistent! If you have questions or need help with school clothing, please contact our office. I have also attached the school dress code policy for you to review.

Updated Utah Law for over the counter medication
Dear ALA Families,
We are writing to share an important update regarding our school health policies and the administration
of medication to students during the school day.
To ensure full compliance with Utah Code Section 53G-9-502 and state student health regulations,
American Leadership Academy does not maintain a stock or communal supply of over-the-counter
(OTC) medications (including Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, or generic pain relievers).
What This Means for Your Student
1. No Desk or Office Stock: School secretaries, teachers, and administrative staff cannot store
unassigned OTC medications at their desks or hand out generic pain relievers to students upon
request.
2. Requirements for OTC Medication at School: If your child requires over-the-counter pain
medication during the school day, the following state-mandated steps must be completed
before any medication can be administered:
o Healthcare Provider Order: A signed, written statement from a licensed healthcare
provider (physician, dentist, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant) stating that the
medication is medically necessary during school hours.
o Parent Authorization: A signed written consent form from the parent or legal guardian.
o Original Packaging: The medication must be provided directly by the parent/guardian in
its original, unopened manufacturer container labeled with the student's name.
o Secure Storage: All authorized medications must be stored in a locked cabinet in the
school health room and administered under the supervision of delegated, trained
personnel.
Exceptions for Emergency Medications
Students with documented life-threatening conditions (such as asthma, severe allergies, or diabetes)
may carry and self-administer emergency medications (e.g., epinephrine auto-injectors or inhalers) once
the appropriate self-administration authorization forms are signed by both a parent and healthcare
provider and filed with the main office.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in keeping our students safe and ensuring our school
operates in full accordance with Utah law. If you need to fill out a Medication Authorization Form, you
can find it at https://charterone.app.box.com/s/gs1b529thjhhu2mi4zupuungy0uexnk1
Sincerely,

A Message from High School Director Mr. Carvalho
Aloha ALA Ohana!
What a GREAT finish to Term 1! There is so much to be excited about at ALA, and the energy throughout our school has been incredible!
One of the most rewarding things to see is the positive culture our students are creating! From the classrooms to the hallways, our Eagles are demonstrating leadership, showing school pride, supporting one another, and putting our RISE UP values into ACTION! These everyday moments are what make ALA such a special place!
Our athletic teams continue to represent ALA with tremendous success, and our talented Fine Arts students are working hard and preparing to showcase their talents in upcoming performances! There is so much happening across our campus, and our Eagles continue to SHINE!
As we begin Term 2, our challenge is simple: Keep showing up, keep working hard, keep supporting one another, and strive for excellence!
Parents, THANK YOU for believing in our students and supporting the direction we are moving as a school. We have an incredible opportunity to continue building something special at ALA, and it takes ALL OF US!
Let's keep the momentum going, continue to ELEVATE EXCELLENCE, and make Term 2 even BETTER!
