Good Morning,
This week students learned all about what makes them special. This month's OWL curriculum focus is on friendship and what makes each child special. Students read stories in the classroom such as Call Me Alex, You and Me and What Makes Us Special.
Extension activity for home: At dinner time take turns going around the table to discuss what makes each of your family members special. Highlight some things that are the same and things that may be different amongst family members.
Safety Reminders:
- Anyone picking up your child that we have not met needs to be sure they have an ID with them. We will not release your child to anyone not on the pick up list and without and ID.
- All children must be in a car seat. See the link for MA car seat law.

Important information from the Health Office:
Fall is upon us and we are beginning to see an uptick in expected illness. In order to maintain the health and safety of the community we want to offer the following information. To prevent the widespread of colds and flu you can follow these guidelines on when to stay home and when to come to school. Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever must remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications. Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities upon return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom. If your child is out of school for 3 days or more please bring a doctor's note upon return.
Consider keeping your child at home for extra rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
● Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
● Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
● Headache
● Stomach ache
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
● Fever (greater than 100 degrees and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, for a minimum of 24 hours)
● Vomiting (even once, must be vomit free for 24 hours before returning)
● Diarrhea
● Chills
● General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
● Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
To help prevent the flu and other colds, practice good hygiene habits with your children:
● Wash hands frequently
● Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
● Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
● Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Have a restful long weekend!

I'm a Super Reader!
Help us reach our goal of 10,000 books
We hope to foster the love of reading in our students. Please help us by helping your child read each day. Attached is a reading chart that your child can color each time they read a book. Bring the reading chart to school once all apples are colored and your child will receive a Super Reader sticker. You may choose to only read 10 books per month or submit as many reading charts as you want. We will be keeping track by classroom. If JECC students reach the goal of 10,000 books, we will have a Bubble party at the end of the year.
Help our students reach their goal!

John Gillion was a 10 year old Surgeon's Assistant and Drummer Boy at the Battle of Waterloo in 1814. John survived that day and moved to Weymouth where he lived most of his life. He is buried with his wife, here in Weymouth.
After the Pipes play, the wreath is laid, words spoken, and our anthems echoes are gone, there will be an informational reception across the street at Tufts.
