A Message from Your Principal Team
Dear Washington Families,
What a wonderful time of year! The holiday season brings so much joy, and it has been a delight to see the smiles, excitement, and energy on our students’ faces throughout the school.
At Washington Elementary, we are truly fortunate to have such amazing students and dedicated staff. Each day is brighter because of the cheerful greetings, kind hearts, and positive spirit our students bring with them. We are incredibly grateful to be part of such a supportive and caring community, and we are thankful that our students and staff continue to learn, grow, and stay healthy together.
As a reminder, Winter Break is just around the corner. There will be no school from December 22, 2025, through January 6, 2026.
On behalf of the entire Washington Elementary staff, we wish you and your family a joyful and restful holiday season. Please stay safe, enjoy this special time with loved ones, and may your days be filled with warmth, cheer, and happiness.
Warm Regards,
Alfredo Belanger, Principal
Antonio Ramos, Asst. Principal

What is happening at Washington?
On Monday, Washington's Choir visited our local senior retirement community, bringing holiday cheer with a selection of popular seasonal songs.
WSD School Board Presentation and Visit
On Tuesday, our Washington Elementary administrative team proudly presented at the Woodburn School District Board meeting. It was a special opportunity to shine a light on the incredible work happening at our school by celebrating several outstanding students, and dedicated staff members who truly represent the heart of our Washington Elementary community. We also shared our school goals, the progress we are making, and the intentional work underway to support student learning and success.
Later in the week, Superintendent Larios and four School Board members visited Washington Elementary to see our school in action. They observed engaging instruction, joyful classrooms, and students actively involved in their learning. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, commitment, and teamwork shown every day by our students, staff, and families.
We are proud of the work we are doing at Washington Elementary. Go Eagles! 🦅
S.M.A.R.T. Reading
SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) has now started another year at Washington. It's on Wednesdays from 8:45am - 10:45am. We're looking for volunteers to read with students one-on-one for this program. It is a great way to make a difference in some of our students' lives. You can apply by going to the website and fill out the application.
All School Singalong 12/19/2025
Our winter singalong is Friday 12/19 at 1pm in the gym. This Sing along is our annual assembly to celebrate the season as a whole school. Parents are welcome to attend, provided that there is space in the gym. Note that the focus of the singalong is students, so if we run out of room we will make sure we prioritize having enough space for students to sit and sing together. Parents, if you choose to visit, we can't promise that you'll get a chair, but we CAN promise that if you're there you'll get to see Frosty, Rudolph, and a couple of other familiar characters! Parents, also please remember that, just as you do every time you visit school, for safety reasons you'll need to sign in at the office first.
State Academic Testing around the corner (repeat)
Woodburn School District is committed to preparing every learner with academic knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school. Oregon’s statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics are fully aligned to Oregon’s State Standards and provide students in grades 3-8 and 11, along with their families, one measure of academic achievement and growth. Assessment results identify your child’s strengths and areas for improvement in English Language Arts and Math. Each subject will be broken into categories and will show how well your child performed in each area. The assessments measure student learning on a scale that allows for comparisons across time.
While no single assessment can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, having your child take the statewide assessments provides educators and administrators with one source of information about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources may be needed. The data from state assessments helps inform district systems, supports and professional development for educators. Your child’s participation is important to ensure our schools receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Your child’s school will share your child’s scores with you at the end of the current school year or the beginning of the next to help support your child’s success as they move from grade to grade.
