Eagle Update

October is flying by - only two more short weeks to go!

Today, we participated the annual Great Oregon Shake Out as part of an international safety preparedness program, where millions of people worldwide participate in earthquake drills on the same day. This year’s earthquake drills was held today for all of Oregon at 10:15 am. All schools and district facilities will participate in this annual drill, and this is the first of two earthquake drills that will be practiced by our locations this year.

Tomorrow is School Picture Day! There is information further down in the newsletter to help ensure your child has a great photo taken.

Remember that we will have Fall Conferences next Thursday, October 22nd and Friday, October 23rd. You should have received an email message from your child's teacher providing the link to sign up for a conference time on Thursday, October 8th. Both days will be No School Days at the elementary level. We are excited to have a chance to share more about your child’s progress here at Archer Glen! Additionally, we will have the Scholastic Book Fair open on those days for parents to do any shopping while they are here.

We are also excited to host fall harvest parties this year! Harvest parties will take place on Thursday, October 29th since there is no school for students on Friday. Students will be allowed to wear costumes at school; however, the times for that will vary depending on the class. Your child's teacher will share those details as the date gets closer. Please know that all costumes need to be appropriate (no violence, weapons, fake blood, face masks, or full face paint) and, ideally, something that your child can take on and off fairly or completely independently. Each class will be running their own celebration and those may look different from class to class. In the event that party volunteers are needed, please know that all volunteers will need to have a completed volunteer background check for the 2026/2027 school year. Please note that background checks are taking 2-3 weeks to clear, so if you are hoping to volunteer at the end of the month, please complete those steps ASAP. It's a great time to set up an eWallet for your child. An eWallet is a cashless way for your child to shop at the fair that also allows family and friends to contribute.

Please note that a new eWallet needs to be created for each Book Fair.

National School Lunch Week celebrates the importance of a nutritious school lunch in fueling students for success. In the 2025-2026 School Year alone, the SSD Nutrition Team served over 246,000 lunches to our students. That is a lot of meals!

The Nutrition Team is celebrating by hosting a raffle contest. Next week, each student participating in School Lunch will receive a raffle entry (limit one entry per day). On Friday, we will draw the winner of this year’s prize, a $25 Fandango Gift Card (courtesy of our industry partners).

Come join us on Wednesday mornings starting in October for a free play time for early learners! Make a friend, play with others, and have a snack!

Open Play is held at the Sherwood School District Office (21920 SW Sherwood Blvd) in the Small Gym and free to families with children 0 to 5 years old. Our entrance is located in the small parking lot, up the stairs. Signs will be posted! Come play with us!
