November 21 & 22

Gobble, Gobble.

Booksgiving is returning to Bellview once again on November 21 & 22. Students can show their spirit of giving and caring by donating slightly used books.

These collected books will then be available for other classmates, who will be able to choose their favorite ones. Students can take part in this event by donating books, and each student will get to select a book (or more depending on how many donations we get) on November 21 & 22. Students may select a book even if they did not donate one.

Thanks Lot- Bellview First Graders

Slogan on the front

Kindness Club led the kickoff of our kindness campaign at the community assembly on Friday. These fifth grade volunteers have been meeting for the past month to plan activities to notice and promote kindness at Bellview, and to model our mission: Inspiring future leaders to imagine and build a better world through thoughtful action and kindness.

They have made posters to put up around the school, written kindness notes to the community, and modeled how to write kindness notes on Friday, They will be running the Bobcat Store on Mondays and Wednesdays before school starting this Monday. Students can use their Bobcat Tickets to purchase items from the store.

November Focus: Gratitude November Focus: Gratitude

In the month of November, we have been focused on practicing gratitude. Students received awards at our community assembly and have been sharing what they are grateful for by adding leaves to the tree in our lobby.

Next month our focus will be empathy. Ask you student what it means to show empathy, and consider participating in our Winter Care Box project, details below.

As the season of giving begins, our Bellview school community comes together to offer support to other Bellview families who have financial challenges during the holidays. Our PTO, combined with direct donations from Bellview families, provides a holiday meal and gifts for all the children (age 0-18) in the home.

Elementary School Boundary Change Update Elementary School Boundary Change Update

The committee to decide what changes will be made to elementary boundary changes met for the first time last week. We looked at demographic data provided by Flo Analytics and their projections for elementary enrollment over the next ten years, considered elementary school enrollment targets for balancing and looked at transfer rates in and out of each of our neighborhood schools. The committee will meet four more times between now and March, and there will be an open house towards the end of the process to share their findings and recommendations with the community. Boundary changes, once determined, will be implemented next year.

Volunteering at School

We are so happy to announce that we can have parent volunteers again! Yahoo! Here is the process:

How To Become a Volunteer:

Step 1:
Complete the Volunteer Registration Form, which includes Notice of Background Check forms
Once completed, please submit the forms and a copy of your driver’s license to the Office Manager of the school where the volunteer position is needed. Forms may also be mailed or faxed to the school office. If no school is specified, forms may be submitted to 885 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 975250
Once you have passed your background check, you are clear to apply to volunteer for any position throughout the school year. No additional background check is necessary, however; it is necessary to repeat this process each school year.

Step 2:
The state of Oregon is requiring all volunteers in schools to be vaccinated. To be cleared as a volunteer in the Ashland School District, you must first submit copies of the front and back of your vaccination card to Haevian Lau at the district office: Haevian.Lau@ashland.k12.or.us . Please notify the school office if you need to request a religious or medical exception.

Step 3:
Mark your calendar with the agreed upon days and times. Please note that certain positions require training and a time commitment. Make sure you can fulfill the volunteer commitments before agreeing to the position.
Be prompt and dependable. Call ahead if you are ill or unable to keep your appointed times. When you commit to volunteering, people are depending on you.
