End of Year Celebrations
Future 9th graders!
The closing of our schools this year has made many of the normal things that we do difficult. One of the things that typically happens in the spring is that you have the opportunity to learn more about High School AVID and complete the application and interview process with staff members from the High School. We are not able to do that, in the same way, this year. We want to still give you the opportunity to learn a little bit about the AVID program and complete an application so we can determine if the AVID program is right for you.
In Middle School, class schedules allow limited electives, which can be a barrier for participation in AVID. The high school schedule eliminates that problem. Students will have the choice of up to 4 electives, each semester. In 9th grade, students will be required to take either AVID or College and Career Prep. If college is your goal, we encourage you to apply for AVID so that your college dreams can continue to be supported throughout your entire high school career.
If you want to know more, the AVID elective class is an opportunity for you to learn about how to be more organized, work with your peers to be more successful in your classes, have a strong mentor relationship with some of the best teachers in the school, and most importantly learn about the steps to apply for college. The main goal of AVID is to help students get into college and be successful once they are there. We recognize that the process of applying for college and paying for it can be daunting, AVID is there to help students navigate that path. If you are someone who knows you want to go to college, but want some extra support getting there, AVID might be for you!
If accepted, you will become part of a close group of students who work together to achieve one goal- academic success. This classroom is where great friends are made and it will become like a school family by the time you graduate. We will work on team building, organization, communication, and so much more! In the four year program, we will see guest speakers, go on field trips to local colleges, as well as push ourselves and each other to achieve our absolute best.
If you are currently in the AVID elective, High School AVID is pretty similar. We still do a lot of team building and tutorials. The big difference is that we shift our focus to college and help you to learn more about the application and scholarship process to ensure college and career readiness and success.
This year we have taken our application process virtual, if you think that you might want to be a part of the AVID elective class next year fill it out! This application is going to be one piece of the process this year. We still might be contacting you to learn even more about you. Our goal is to make sure that you are right for the AVID program and that the AVID program is the right fit for you.
