Cohasset High School Newsletter
News and Happenings at Cohasset High School
June 5 , 2026
Dear Families,
There has been a whirl of activity the past two weeks, but considering we are on the precipice of graduation, I'm going to reserve the underclass comments to "need to know" here and highlight the other stories in the next newsletter, both so that their achievements receive the attention they deserve and so that the seniors can have the attention they deserve.
I'll leave my parting comments to the seniors for tomorrow, and if you are unable to attend you can find an abbreviated version in this month's edition of Stroll, but I will leave you with this anecdote, paraphrased from an email I received this morning from a parent.
At Class Night last night, I made an observation at the end of the ceremony, which takes place in the auditorium. It's not a particularly complicated ceremony. Students march in and fill the rows of seats in the front. Their only instruction is to fill every seat before beginning the next row. And this works well, unless the numbers are such that you are the very back of the line and that last row is occupied just by you.
I made mention of this because when we noticed it at practice, I said to the student not to worry because not all students typically show up for Class Night. But I was wrong. They showed up for each other whether they were receiving an award or not, with very few exceptions. This of course was meant to commend them on their ability to demonstrate unity right until the end. But it doesn't make that last seat any lonelier.
This morning, I received an email from a parent, which read as follows:
In your closing comments, it was interesting that you mentioned the girl in the last row, I was sitting directly behind her. When the kids walked in at the start, she was the last one and upon realizing she would be sitting in a row alone, she had a moment of resignation/sadness on her face.
But immediately accepted it and sat down. No more than a minute later the girl from the last seat on the far side in the row in front, got up, moved, and sat down next to her.
Where the two of them stayed for the night.
I love that part of the story. And I responded that what compels me most about this class is that they are quiet actors. They just do the right thing. No attention seeking. No question of whether they are breaking the rules and could get in trouble. They just show up when others need it.
It should be a beautiful day tomorrow for their final farewell. They certainly deserve every bit of the celebration.
Sincerely,
Brian T. Scott
Principal

Yearbooks
This year's yearbook was dedicated to ESP Ms. Suzanne Thornton. Writes the class,
The Class of 2026 proudly dedicates this yearbook to Mrs. Thornton.
Mrs. Thornton, thank you for always being there for any student who needs help. Throughout every class, we have been grateful for the constant support, encouragement, and guidance you have given us. You truly care about each student, and you have shown us what it means to be kind and patient while still pushing us to work hard and achieve our goals.
Even when a student is struggling, you are always there to help, to listen, and to do everything you can to support their success. What truly stands out is that no matter what, when a student raises their hand, you are right there to help in any way possible. Your positivity, energy, and dedication brighten every room, and you have made this year one we will never forget.
You stand out in a meaningful way, always wanting the best for your students and everyone around you. Whether it鈥檚 printing extra copies, taking notes for a student who was absent, or simply offering reassurance, you go above and beyond to make sure every student is set up for success.
Thank you for everything you do and for the lasting impact you have made on the Class of 2026 and CHS as a whole.
Sincerely,
The Class of 2026
You Are Not Bulletproof
Wednesday the seniors were blessed to hear an incredibly powerful talk from Jim Butcher, retired football referee in high school and college, who tragically lost his daughter in a car crash her freshman year in college in 2007. She did everything right. It was a bad decision by the driver who was speeding in a rural area and lost control of the car. The impact one bad decision and an inability to get out of that situation was a lesson in vulnerability and responsible decision making.
Senior Clap-Out
On Thursday, June 4, seniors retraced their academic journeys through the Cohasset Public Schools, from Osgood to Deer Hill and through the Middle and High Schools. A fitting tribute before the big walk on Saturday.
Class Night
This past Thursday, we held Class Night to honor the class of 2026. Over 65 organizations have raised over $200,000 dollars to celebrate the accomplishments of 13 years of work for our seniors, and there isn鈥檛 a more deserving group.
