A Note From the Attendance Office (previously posted)
The responsibility of school attendance is that of both parents/families and students. School attendance is important as it underscores the significance of learning and obtaining an education in our ever-evolving society. Regular school attendance also correlates strongly with improved grades and it helps students develop good work habits that will carry over in life. To aid students in being academically successful, attendance is required for attainment of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) standards. The Superintendent has designated the minimum levels of attendance in procedure consistent with state standards.
GCPS Student Handbook - Attendance
GCPS no longer accepts email or handwritten notes from parents when a child is absent. Parents must submit information regarding recent absences, such as doctor's notes, in ParentVUE. More detailed information.
Notes should be submitted within seven days of an absence.

Seckinger Achievements and Recognitions
Congratulations to Cai Kittredge and Peyton Linemann on being selected for the Georgia Music Educators Association Music Technology Student Showcase!
This is a statewide competition featured over 150 students entering original music productions/compositions from across the state of Georgia. Of those submissions, only 17 students across the state were selected by a worldwide panel made up of K12 educators and industry professionals for the Showcase, and we are one of only three high schools in the state to have multiple students selected!
Students in Mrs. Hall's Ecology Classes competed in the Build the Moon Challenge this semester - each class period used lunar regolith simulant to research, develop, and test recipes to make concrete for building on the moon using local resources for future space travel. Students documented their testing and designed a habitat based on their materials.
On Wednesday, December 10, we learned that 7th period Ecology was awarded as the best project in the state of Georgia!
Design Thinking in Foundations of AI Class
Our Foundations of AI classes finished the Design Thinking unit with an official launch from the groups' catapults and with zoom sessions from the engineers themselves, including one NASA rocket scientist/astronaut trainer and a Peace Corps civil engineer. They also asked questions of and interacted with a current automotive engineering student in his senior year at NYU. The farthest catapults from each class were 20+ feet, and the overall winner was 25 1/2 feet! We look forward to other such projects in the future!
