Year at a Glance

We are excited to roll out an entire year's work of school events, activities, spirit weeks, and more to help all Timberwolves connect to MVHS. ASB has constructed a "Year at a Glance" calendar (live document) for the year in an effort to make sure everyone knows what's happening and how to get involved.

Get ready to experience the Pulse of Possibility through art, music, performance, and creativity! On Saturday, October 17, Vista Unified students will take over Main Street for the 22nd Annual Vista Festival of the Arts, showcasing the incredible artistic talent of our students from elementary through high school.

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Main Street will come alive with more than 30 Vista Unified student performing groups and hundreds of pieces of student artwork on display. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy student musicians, dancers, and performers, explore an incredible collection of visual and digital art, and see firsthand the creativity, skill, and imagination flourishing across our schools.

The Festival of the Arts is one of Vista’s most joyful traditions and a powerful reminder of what happens when students have opportunities to find their voice, develop their talents, take creative risks, and share their work with the world. Bring your family and friends, come cheer on our students, explore their incredible work, and spend the day celebrating the Pulse of Possibility that is alive across Vista Unified!!

Tech Time Review Community Forum and Family Survey Tech Time Review Community Forum and Family Survey

Date: October 28, 2026

Time: 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (VUCPTA Association meeting is 6:00-6:30pm)
Location: Vista Innovation Center (VIC), Multi-Purpose Room, 836 Olive Avenue

VUSD families are invited to join us for a Community Collaboration focused on the Family Campaign portion of the Tech Time Review. Hosted by VUCPTA, this workshop is open to all VUSD families. During this interactive workshop, families will share ideas and work together to help shape the Family Campaign. The campaign will provide families with practical, accessible resources that support healthy technology habits, responsible use of AI and social media, and creative screen-free activities that encourage imagination, play, conversation, and connection. We hope you will bring your experiences, creativity, and ideas to help us design a campaign that is genuinely useful for VUSD families.

Take the Tech Time Review Family Survey

This is an important opportunity for families to share their experiences, questions, concerns, and recommendations about student technology use during the school day. Survey responses will be considered alongside student and staff input, the district’s technology-use audit, research, and community forum discussions.

The survey will remain open through Sunday, October 11, and the findings will be reviewed during the Tuesday, October 20, Community Forum.

You Are Invited to Our Tech Time Review Parent and Community Forums

Dates: October 7; October 20; November 4; December 10

Time: 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Location: Vista Innovation Center (VIC), Multi-Purpose Room, 836 Olive Avenue

  • October 7: Awareness. We will establish a shared foundation by reviewing research and examining what technology use currently looks like across VUSD. We will also consider approaches taken by other school districts, distinguish among the different types and purposes of student technology use, and discuss topics such as social media and artificial intelligence (AI).

  • October 20: Empathy and Understanding. We will deepen our collective understanding by hearing what students, families, teachers, and staff are experiencing. We will also examine the benefits, concerns, research, and practical realities surrounding different types of technology use at different ages.

  • November 4: Synthesis and Ideation. We will bring together what we have learned and identify what VUSD should protect, change, create, or clarify. Participants will help develop potential recommendations and language for a new VUSD Board policy and Administrative Regulation.

  • December 10: Prototype and Feedback. Earlier that week, students serving on the Superintendent’s Council for Innovative Learning will review a draft Board policy proposal. At this forum, we will share the proposal, share what we heard from the students, and gather final community feedback before preparing the policy for the School Board’s first reading in January.

California Healthy Youth Act Information (9th Grade Students) California Healthy Youth Act Information (9th Grade Students)

The California Healthy Youth Act 2016 (CHYA) mandates that every student shall receive instruction to build the knowledge and skills necessary to protect their sexual and reproductive health from unintended pregnancy, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (California Education Code Sections 51930-51939). At Mission Vista, this information is provided/taught to students in 9th-grade courses (Freshman Seminar or AVID). For more information, please click here.

Cell Phone Policy Addition - Wearable Technology (i.e., Meta Glasses) Cell Phone Policy Addition - Wearable Technology (i.e., Meta Glasses)

We at MVHS strictly enforce the District-wide cell phone policy, which prohibits the use of cell phones, wireless earbuds, and smartwatches during instructional time. We want students' focus to be on learning when in class. Recently, we've encountered an increasing number of students with Meta Glasses, which have since been added to the list of technology that is prohibited during class time. The primary concern about students wearing Meta Glasses during class is the ability to record peers and/or staff members, sample coursework, and even test questions, etc., without any prior consent.

We have created a new poster outlining our electronic devices policy -- including Meta Glasses and the like -- to be posted in all classroom spaces. Wearable technology such as Meta Glasses will be treated the same as cell phones during instructional time.

Anonymous Tip Reporting: If You See Something, Say Something Anonymous Tip Reporting: If You See Something, Say Something

MVHS, along with all other Vista Unified schools have an anonymous tip line (see the button below) where all stakeholders (students, parents, staff, community members) can report dangerous behaviors on, around, or related to our campus. Tips reported are completely anonymous (unless the user shares his/her name), and VUSD and MVHS administrators are alerted immediately. In order to keep our school community safe, we ask all stakeholders that if they see something, say something, and the tip line is just one of many ways to do that.

Concurrent Enrollment / COLLEGE CREDITS

High school students can take off-campus courses for advancing to a higher level course in their next school year, or complete a non-sequenced level course and create schedule space for future options. Concurrent enrollment lets you earn college credit for college courses completed while you're still in high school – and those courses also could count toward your high school diploma.
