Honor the Past, Prepare for the Future, Participate Now
Mr. Mauck's Musings
On April 24th the seniors participated in a passing of the torch with the GJCS kindergarten students. It was a special event for our graduates to bond with our future class of 2038. Thank you to Gillian Blessinger, and Evan Elrod's Media Class for producing the video linked below. Next week is Finals week at JHS. Seniors will begin finals on Monday and underclassmen will begin on Wednesday. Check the finals schedule as classes do not always meet at the customary time. This afternoon we recognized our seniors during the JHS Honors Day Program. We awarded over a million dollars in scholarships and awards. We had so many awards that the program had to be cut short and we will finish recognizing our Student Council and our athletes on Monday. Mrs. Megan Johnson was awarded the Teacher of the Year award for GJCS. Thank you Megan for all you do for our students. I wanted to thank our students for being attentive and respectful during the presentation. Ms. Anna Ruhe and Mrs. Leesa Beyke were recognized as our student and staff members of the week.
We had a number of fun activities going on this week. Mrs. Schuetter's homeroom won the door decorating contest. Mrs. Knust's advanced animal science class had a mock dog show. Some of our comfort dogs took part and the kids created cardboard cutouts for breeds we did not have access to. Mrs. Keusch's English classes decorated the sidewalks with chalk, proclaiming their post-graduation plans. The kids enjoyed the outdoor activity and a creative representation of their plans. Mrs. Mehringer's Business classes held the Spring Market. The groups selected some service to offer, created a logo, marketing plan, developed operational costs, production logistics and the finances for their booth. Students could purchase tickets to use to purchase items at the booths during homeroom on Wednesday. The Spring Market is a fantastic simulated business experience.
Good luck to our Girl's Tennis, Boy's and Girl's Track teams as the enter Sectional competition next week. Tennis will play on Wednesday and Thursday. The Girl's Track team will run at Perry Central on Tuesday, while the Boy's Track team will host Sectional on Thursday. Boy's Golf, Baseball and Softball all have multiple events next week. The weather is perfect to go and support our Cats. The JHS Cross Country Teams are hosting Hammer Down. It is a 5k and mile race in Downtown Jasper on Saturday, June 13th. It is the only fundraiser for the Jasper Cross Country program; proceeds benefit the high school, middle school, and youth programs
On Friday, May 22nd at 6:30 pm in the JHS Gym we will be graduating the class of 2026. Doors number 3 and 5 will open at 6pm. There are no limits on attendance and seating is first come first serve. This is one of my favorite events and we have had so many kids work really hard to earn the honor of a Jasper High School Diploma. If you are unable to attend you can stream the ceremony using this link.
Have a wonderful weekend and Go Cats!
