Johnston After School Playground Use

We absolutely love having our students play at our playground after school. However, there are one of two things that have to happen for your child to be allowed at the playground after school hours:

  1. Come with a parent to supervise.

  2. Go home after school to check in and then come back.

Unfortunately, we do not have staff that can supervise the playground after school, so we want to ensure our students are safe and accounted for. Thank you so much for your cooperation with this.

Beforehand, each grade level will put together a basket for the silent auction that night. Each class needs to have something for all the donations to display in, ex: laundry baskets, totes, etc. We will also need cellophane to wrap the baskets in as well as a typed list of each item in the basket for when it is displayed. We will wrap the gift baskets on April 18th, immediately after school.

2nd- Movie Night
3rd- Scratch off tickets
4th- Fiesta
5th- A day at the beach

PTO Elections!

Johnston PTO does amazing things throughout the year for our students and teachers. They are taking nominations now for elected positions. If you or you know of someone that would be great, come to our main office to nominate them from now until April 17th.

Nominations do close on the 17th. Nominees will be announced at the April meeting. Nominees need to be present at that meeting to accept the nomination. Voting will be on May 18th during that meeting.

Candy Bar Fundraiser

Our yearly World’s Finest Chocolate fundraiser is currently underway! Each box contains a variety of 60 chocolate bars, and is $1 per chocolate bar.

Please return $60 (cash or check made payable to Johnston PTO) by April 21st.

If you do not wish to participate, please return your unopened box of chocolate to school on Tuesday, April 11th.

The class that has the highest percentage of students who have returned payment for their box by April 21st will receive an ice cream party. We thank you for your continuous support in raising funds for our PTO and school!

All Kids Bike Program!

Johnston Elementary School is seeking support for a complete Kindergarten PE Program, including a fleet of 30 Strider AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, one Strider 20-inch Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.

"The All Kids Bike program will be used for our kindergarten students and students with special needs in our early childhood development classes. We service a largely impoverished community where the luxury of strider-type bikes is just not feasible for most of our families. To be able to provide the opportunity for every student to learn to ride a bike at a developmentally appropriate age fits our mission and goals perfectly." PE Teacher, Joe T.

Safety at Johnston

Our staff and students do an excellent job following safety protocol. Here is a summary of some of the things we have in place here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/11aZLQChUOAt-bdUKyo1SnmHy0zljJPNI/view?usp=sharing

Extracurricular Extracurricular

Arrival Procedures

  • Doors open for students at 7:35 a.m. daily. Students who eat breakfast at school will be allowed entry beginning at 7:20 a.m at Door D. Anyone arriving after 7:50 a.m. will need to buzz and come into the main office to sign in.

  • Cars will enter the parking lot off Duluth Street (right turn only) and follow the curve to drop off students. Please pull up as far as you can and drop all your students off at one time. Have your children ready with their backpacks, lunch money, hugs, and kisses, so that when you stop they may exit the car quickly, and we can keep the drop-off line moving. The line can become backed up onto Duluth Street very quickly which causes safety issues for our parents, as well as other drivers.

  • Please drop off curbside only, and parents stay in their cars. Avoid dropping children off where they have to cross the street, this is extremely dangerous. It will be your responsibility to cross them if you choose to do this.

  • Please be mindful of other drivers and walkers. We know many of you have to get to work, and we want all children to be able to enter the building safely and on time.

  • Doors C (1st & 2nd) and B (Kindergarten, 3rd, & 4th) will be utilized for entrance as usual.

  • 5th graders and Mrs. Torres's class will use Door G.

Dismissal Procedures

At the end of the school day, the following doors will be used for dismissal:

  • Grade K will exit through door J (FIVE minutes before the rest of the grade levels)

  • Grade 1 will exit through door C (main doors)

  • Grade 2 will exit through door B

  • Grade 3 will exit through door J

  • Grade 4 will exit through door I

  • Grade 5 and Mrs. Torres's class will exit through door G

  • Bus riders will exit through door J (a few minutes prior to the remainder of the school being dismissed where the buses will be waiting).

Cars may enter the parking lot off Duluth Street and follow the curve to pick up or park in the parking lot to walk up to get students.

We would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation as we strive to keep our Johnston families safe.

Fine Arts and Gym

We have rotating "Specials" times. See the link below or check our website's calendar. Please check your classroom teacher's agenda each day to see what class you need to attend.

Here is a link to a calendar that lists the rotations.
