“THE BEST WAY TO TAKE CARE OF THE FUTURE IS TO TAKE CARE OF THE PRESENT MOMENT.”
- Thich Nhat Hanh
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
Today marks the end of our first month of the school year.
This week has been a reminder that although things happen that are out of our control, they often affect us and our students and the interactions we have at school. One of our roles as educators is to help students develop the skills to navigate differences, engage in civil discourse and learn with those who may not share the same perspective. How to listen, question, dialogue, and advocate with respect. It is a constant challenge, especially in these times. One way we have addressed this is through our partnership with the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC). Prior to the first day of school the entire CUSD staff participated in the NCRC ‘Dialogue in Divisive Times’ training. We hope the skills practiced in that training (and other NCRC training events like the ‘Bystander Challenge’ held with our student athletes and other small groups) will help us navigate the many issues that arise outside of our classroom walls with sensitivity and respect. If your child is struggling with recent national events, please reach out to our amazing staff for support.
We have some great news and an update regarding our robotics and computer science pathways in the district. In support of our Portrait of a Graduate initiative, we are expanding these experiences for students. Read all about these K-12 STEM programs.
Tonight is the home opener for the CHS Islander football team. Come out to Niedermeyer Field at 7pm and cheer on the Islanders as they take on Maranatha Christian High School. It’s also Youth Night and our local Pop Warner teams will be celebrated at half-time with a special guest appearance by the Coronado Cheer Club. Lots of fun stuff for sale as well - including 92118 hats and Kona Ice!

Ed Tech Parent Series
SDCOE is excited to announce the upcoming Educational Technology Parent Series, a free virtual learning opportunity open to all parents and educators across our region. This series is designed to support families and school communities in navigating educational technology and resources that empower student success.
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
