Weekly Update for SMNW Families - October 11, 2026
From the Desk of the Principal
Hello NW,
I hope everyone has had a great week! The End of the Quarter is a great opportunity for us to reset and begin a new Quarter. We want the 2nd Quarter to start off well so let’s talk Attendance. A great way to look at Attendance is by saying 10 days or less for school success. That means a student should not miss more than 10 days in a school year. It seems like a lot but it really needs to be for times when students or sick or necessary appointments. Instruction time matters at NW and it is so neat to have our students in the seats! We value our instructional time and engaged students. Tardies are next on the list. They are also apart of attendance. This week we will be starting Tardy Sweeps! They will start on Tuesday. This means if a student is not in class when the bell rings they will be swept. If they get two sweeps in one day they will have a consequence from the office. Please encourage your child to be in class on time. It is a life skill that we want all of our NW students to leave us with.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are THIS WEEK!

SUPER TEST DAY is THIS THURSDAY 10/15

District Transportation Contact:
The Shawnee Mission School District is excited to announce the rollout of a new communication platform that will be used across the district. ParentSquare will be replacing School Messenger/Skylert as the district’s emergency and mass notification platform.
Training began this July for specified staff members. Prior to school starting, families and staff members will start to see more information via email about launching their use of ParentSquare. This will be an important way for families and staff to receive emergency messaging (like snow day information) as well as important announcements from the district and schools.
Through a phased implementation, ParentSquare will provide a more streamlined communication experience for staff and families. Please continue to watch for more information and resources in the coming weeks!
