Halloween – Events and Costume Considerations

We will celebrate Halloween on October 31st with our annual Parade, Costumes, and class parties. We will host our annual Halloween parade at 8:15. Because this is such a well attended event we have outgrown the school gym! We will be hosting the parent viewing portion of the school parade on the playground blacktop. The back gate on the west side near the school garden will open to parents at 8:00. We plan to begin the parade at 8:15. The front office will be closed from the start of school until the parade concludes. Please plan to meet all student costume needs before school starts. Next week's Wednesday Note will include a map of the viewing area for parents wishing to attend.

Students are welcome to wear costumes for this event. We ask that costumes be in keeping with our dress-down day dress code, be appropriate for an elementary school audience, and adhere to the following guidelines: no weapons, no masks, minimal make-up, considerate of other cultures, and no excessive blood or gore. The Halloween requires a quick pace through multiple classroom doors. For this reason, costumes that are wide, very delicate, or have long trails struggle to fit through doorways, making the experience less fun for the students wearing them, and are not advised. We will be ending the day with our Halloween class parties. If you are interested in helping with class parties, please contact your student's teacher or class captain.

Coats for Kids

The Bountiful City Rotary Coats for Kids program has several vouchers available to WPA families who need warm clothing for the year. If your family would benefit from this program, please get in touch with Mary Anne in the front office.

Mid-Year Testing

In the coming weeks, we will begin Interim RISE assessments. These assessments help us individualize and improve our instruction to all students. If you have any questions regarding these assessments, please contact us.

PBS November Reading Challenge

Every year PBS sponsors a reading challenge for students and rewards them for participating with a free adventure pass to get into a wide variety of different museums, parks, zoos, etc., throughout the year. It is one of our favorite programs because it supports literacy through reading and exposure to various experiences that help build background knowledge in kids. You can find more details here.
