Hello Miller Families!

We can't believe that it's officially the first week of school! We enjoyed meeting all the children and families last week at Open House and we are super excited to open our doors for the 26-27 School Year! Please remember that we are on a staggered start schedule this week and it's outlined below which days your child will or will not attend.

Please take some time to log into our My Ride Bus App to know your child's bus number, location and approximate time of day. Our buses will take longer for the first few weeks so this app is a great way to track when your child will be home. If you are bringing them to school, please follow the specific arrival windows found below in this newsletter. You will be bringing your child to the doors of our building and we will be escorting them to their classrooms just like our bus riders.

I'm sure there will be a lot of First Day of School jitters and tears this week both from children and family members! I'm right there with you! I'm dropping my oldest off at college for the first time and it feels like yesterday when I dropped her off at Miller Elementary! We've got this and I know our children will thrive in the year ahead! I'm looking forward to seeing you all throughout this week!

Transportation schedules are now available through the MyRide K-12 App. Thank you to the parents who responded previously and registered your students. Please note: schedules and route times are subject to change due to continuing student changes.

The following attachment is the directions on how to download the App, if needed. You will need to know your students district ID# which can be located in final forms and their date of birth. You can also find this information on the ACSD website under Departments/Transportation.

Alternate bus stop forms are required each year, as needed https://www.aurora-schools.org/fs/resource-manager/view/6e0e7043-ec28-4663-bfbe-35da94a6e514

If you have any further questions or concerns, please email transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org

If your child will be dropped off or picked up from school, I’ll be sharing more detailed information in upcoming newsletters. Please note that Miller does not have a designated drop-off or pick-up lane. All families must park and walk to the arrival doors. We follow specific arrival and dismissal time frames to help reduce congestion and keep everyone safe. Due to limited parking, this remains one of our biggest logistical challenges. We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and teamwork to help make arrival and dismissal as smooth and safe as possible for all students and families!

Arrival and Dismissal at Miller Elementary Arrival and Dismissal at Miller Elementary

At Miller Elementary, all car riders must park their car and walk their child to our main doors or the preschool entrance. We are aware that our parking is very limited and our number one priority is safety in the parking lot. Please drive carefully and look out for little ones. We will have someone in the parking lot directing cars during the first few days to try and assist with arrival and dismissal.

Preschool Arrival and Dismissal Times:

AM Preschool Arrival 8:40-8:50 (Lower Doors) & AM Preschool Dismissal 11:30 (Split Dismissal)

PM Preschool Arrival 12:45-12:50 (Main Doors) & PM Preschool Dismissal 3:20 (Split Dismissal)

Kindergarten Arrival and Dismissal Times

Upper Main Door Entrance - Door 2

Full Day Kindergarten: Arrival 8:55-9:05 and Dismissal 3:25-3:35

AM 1/2 Day Kindergarten: Arrival 8:55-9:05 & Dismissal 11:40-11:45

(We dismiss kindergarten children after preschool.)

Please try to stick to these windows of time in order to smoothly get all children in and out of our building with adult support. Our parking lot is very small and limited. Please be cautious of others and try not to double park. Finally, our accessible parking spaces are reserved for families with the correct car tag. Only families with the correct license plate or tag should be using these spaces. Thank you!

Bus Arrival On the First Days Of School Bus Arrival On the First Days Of School

Sending your child off on the bus those first few days of school comes with big feelings and lots of questions. Will they know where to go? Will someone be there to guide them? We want you to feel completely confident about their morning transition, so here is a quick look at our arrival process. Rest assured, our team is ready to guide them safely from your loving arms straight to our classroom doors!

At Open House, your child will receive a lanyard/bus tag to wear to and from school for the first few weeks. This visual tag helps our bus drivers, staff, and volunteers quickly identify your child, know their name, and ensure they reach the correct classroom safely.

Once the bus arrives at Miller Elementary, staff members will greet the children and guide them along the yellow line into the building. From there, additional staff and volunteers will escort them directly to their classroom doors.

Please ensure your child wears their lanyard every single day! We will remove it during the school day and put it back on before dismissal to ensure a smooth trip home. Please note that the bus number listed on the tag indicates their afternoon bus ride home. We know some students ride a different bus in the morning! If you believe their bus tag is incorrect, we will have you stop in the office during Open House.

Planned Absences, Attendance & Religious Expression Days Planned Absences, Attendance & Religious Expression Days

In Ohio, school-age children (K-12- Not Preschool) are legally required to attend school, and attendance is tracked strictly by hours missed rather than full days. To keep your child on track, always notify the school immediately when your child is absent using our online reporting tool which you will get at Open House or provide us with any medical notes for absences.

In Aurora, we require planned absence forms when you know in advance that your child will be missing school. Additionally, if you will be submitting for any religious expression days, these need to be submitted prior to the start of the school year. We're here to support your child's success with regular school attendance and staying on track throughout the year!

Miller Attendance & Transportation Reporting Form Miller Attendance & Transportation Reporting Form

At Miller Elementary, we utilize a Google Form to report attendance, late arrival, early dismissal, and change of transportation such as switching from a bus rider to office pick-up!

To report an absence or change your child to a car rider or bus rider, please click the button below or scan the QR code magnet that we will pass out at Open House. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Toler. We get a notification each time an entry occurs.

We operate exclusively through parent communication about change of transportation. If your child believes they will be picked up and you have not notified the office, then we assume they are to ride the bus or regular form of transportation. We will call you if there is any confusion between our office records and your child.

If your child will be absent, you will use this form to report the absence along with the reason for the absence. We are working really hard to reduce the amount of phone calls, emails, or notes that we receive. We ask that you reserve those modes of communication for emergencies only. Thank you in advance for your help and let us know if you have any questions at all!

Full Day Kindergarten Buying & Packing Lunch Full Day Kindergarten Buying & Packing Lunch

Eating lunch at school is another fun and exciting experience! This might be their first time eating in a large group, opening their lunch box or buying a lunch!

A hot lunch may be purchased beginning next week daily or your child can pack a lunch. They also have the option to purchase white or chocolate milk instead of packing a drink. The main lunch costs $3.50 and milk only costs $0.75. Each child has a lunch account and we will provide you with their lunch account information at Open House. You can add money to their account via a credit card following the directions on the sheet, send in cash or you can send in a check made out to the Aurora City Schools. If you send in money, please place it in an envelope or baggie with your child’s name and a note indicating the money is for lunch. We will deduct the cost of lunch or milk each day that your child makes a purchase. Please make sure your child knows if they are buying or packing a lunch each day. We spend time helping them make their selection at the beginning of the year and soon this is an independent task they complete each day! Some of our classes eat lunch at 11:00 and other classes eat lunch at 12:00. You will find out this specific information from your child's teacher at Open House!

You can track your child's lunch account by setting up your profile using the login information from Open House. You may also send in cash or a check written out to the Aurora City Schools.
