Media Update

Since attending time in the media center we've learn to love books! Starting next week we are going to start checking out our own library books to take back to the classroom. During our relaxation stations at rest time the children enjoy reading stories from the classroom library. Each week we go to the media center the children will check out one book to keep in the classroom. Once checked out we will have our own books during relaxations stations and gain more book knowledge and concept of print with stories we love!

Second Step

This week we discuss about accidents. We might explore this topic more next week as well since it is a complex topic to understand. It is important for children to understand that some actions are accidents. This may make children less likely to jump to conclusions. When children assume that others did something on purpose, they are more likely to respond aggressively. This is particularly true of children who are more frequently aggressive than others, even when the situation is unclear. The lesson will support children to identify when something happens by accident and demonstrate saying, “I didn’t mean to. It was an accident. Are you okay?” in response too scenarios.

Since this is the time of year we visit family members, I wanted to touch base on how each family is either the same or different. Like we discuss last week about same and different feelings, we can used the concept of same and different in families. We did a lesson about where we are in our families. Children love to share and they had no problem sharing which parent was older or younger. Using the same concept, the children had to graph if they were older, middle, younger or only child in their immediate families. Everyone had the opportunity to chat about their siblings and family members.

Small Group

Everyone has been busy bees making lots of crafts for the holiday break! We were getting into the festive mood by decorating our classroom door with wreaths. The children had to follow step directions of sticking on the tissue paper using a glue stick. Once the wreaths are dry the children added on a little bow. We also cut out trees. It was a bit tricky because the trees were folded. It was a good fine motor activity by really squeezing scissors and following the lines. The children also used different shapes to create a gingerbread person! We were learning about the different geometric attributes if each shape.
