English CAASPP Testing for Students in Grade 11 English CAASPP Testing for Students in Grade 11

Dear Great Oak High School Families of Students in Grade 11,

As we head into the final months of school, the teachers and staff at GOHS are committed to helping each child be the best they can be! One way that we measure if students have learned all that we have taught is through the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress). Additionally, this assessment provides EAP scores for college placement tests for the California Community Colleges and CSU System. It is also a component of students qualifying for the CA Biliteracy Seal, Multiliteracy Seal and Honors college acceptance.

The first segment for English Language Arts testing begins on Monday, March 2nd and continues through Friday, March 6th for all of our 11th grade students. During this week GOHS will be on a Rolling Block schedule to allow students sufficient time to complete the assessment and will be administered by your student’s English teacher during their regularly scheduled English class.

The second segment for Science begins on Monday, April 6th and continues through Friday, April 10th for all of our 11th grade students. The CAST will be administered by your student’s Science teacher during their regularly scheduled Science class.

The final segment for Math begins on Monday, April 13th and continues through Friday, April 17th for all of our 11th grade students. GOHS will be on a Rolling Block schedule to allow students sufficient time to complete the assessment and will be administered by your student’s Math teacher during their regularly scheduled Math class.

We ask that during your child’s testing window that you consider the following in helping your child to do their best on the CAASPP:

  • Bring Technology to School

Each student will need to bring a charged school issued iPAD or chromebook to school each day for testing. They will also need to bring a charging cable as a back-up! Students must also need to bring their PLUG IN headphones.

  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Eat a Good Breakfast
  • Encourage your Student
  • Get them Moving
  • Be at School and Arrive on Time

We ask that if at all possible students are not pulled out of school for doctor/dentist appointments that would impact their testing time. We appreciate your support in protecting this time for all of the students.

February Student of the Month: David Jiang February Student of the Month: David Jiang

We are proud to recognize David Jiang as our February Student of the Month! David embodies our core values of SPIRIT through his curiosity, integrity, and passion for learning. A thoughtful and reflective student, he plans to study Asian American Studies in college to explore his culture and community.

David is known for his reliability, teamwork, and meaningful involvement on campus. His favorite sound—the closing of a subway door—reminds him of being part of something bigger, a philosophy he carries in all he does.

Congratulations, David, on this well-deserved recognition!

PBIS: Electronic Devices in Locker Rooms and Restrooms PBIS: Electronic Devices in Locker Rooms and Restrooms

Recently, we have noticed an increase in students using electronic devices—including cell phones, iPads, Meta glasses, and other recording-capable devices—in locker rooms and bathrooms, where their use is strictly prohibited. We want to take a moment to clarify our expectations. Protecting student privacy, safety, and dignity is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your student.

Recording and Privacy Expectations
Students are prohibited from using any electronic device (including, but not limited to, cell phones, tablets, smart glasses, or other recording devices) to capture, record, or transmit audio and/or images (including pictures or video) of any student, staff member, or other individual at school or during a school-related activity without prior notice and explicit consent. Recording or sharing audio, photos, or video without consent is considered an invasion of privacy and is not permitted.

Locker Rooms and Bathrooms
Students are strictly prohibited from using electronic devices of any kind to take pictures or record audio or video in locker rooms or bathrooms. This behavior is a violation of California Penal Code Section 647(j)(3) and may result in serious disciplinary consequences.

Harassment, Intimidation, and Altercations
Students are prohibited from using electronic devices in any way that could reasonably cause another person to feel threatened, humiliated, harassed, or intimidated. Recording, sharing, and/or uploading a physical altercation is prohibited and may be a direct violation of Jordan’s Law (AB 1542).

Social Media Awareness
We encourage students to be thoughtful and responsible when using social media. Posts can have long-term consequences, including impacts on college admissions, scholarships, and future opportunities, and may also reflect negatively on Great Oak High School. Posts that create a hostile environment or disrupt the learning environment may be subject to disciplinary action under the Education Code when a nexus to school is established.

We ask that you review these expectations with your student and remind them of the importance of respecting privacy and making responsible choices when using electronic devices. Together, we can help maintain a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for all students.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
