A Message from Your Administrators

It is hard to believe we are already in the middle of October! This month seems to be flying by, and we are just 2 days away from our TES Walkathon!

Our students have reached another milestone, earning EXTRA RECESS for the whole school! We have also reached 57% of our $20,000 fundraising goal, thanks to the support of our families and community.

Although the Walkathon is just around the corner, we still have 9 days left to fundraise and reach our goal of a school-wide dance party! If every TES student registers and raises just $10, we can make it happen!

Thank you for your continued support and for helping make this such an exciting experience for our students. Let's keep the momentum going!

DIBELS 8th Assessment Update

Student DIBELS reports for grades 1–5 will be sent home later this week. DIBELS is our approved Early Literacy Screener and helps us identify students' strengths and areas where additional support may be needed as they develop their reading skills. Throughout the year, we will share screening reports with families to keep you informed of your child's progress.

Kindergarten reports will be sent home in the winter. The fall assessment serves as a baseline to help us understand each student's starting point. We will begin benchmarking in the winter and spring to monitor progress and better understand students' developing literacy skills.

Please see the following link for additional information about the importance of early literacy screening:https://app.smore.com/n/7crkn

The Importance of Bus Safety

This past week, TES began our Trimester 1 school bus safety meetings. During these meetings, bus drivers join the conversation to review expectations for appropriate bus behavior and discuss why safety must always be a priority. Students also watched a video reviewing how to board the bus safely, ride safely, and exit the bus safely. https://youtube.com/watch?v=3X5TAB_O7PA&feature=youtu.be

If a bus safety incident occurs, drivers will notify our administrative team. In some cases, students may also complete a bus safety reflection form, which will be sent home for parent/guardian review.

It is important that school and families work together to ensure all students follow bus safety expectations. We appreciate your support in talking with your child(ren) about the importance of making safe and responsible choices while riding the bus.

Adopt a Family Program & Costume Spirit Day – Friday, October 30th 🎃

As part of our annual Adopt a Family Program, we invite families to consider sending in a $1.00 donation per student on October 30th to help support local families in need. We appreciate your generosity and support of this meaningful tradition at TES!

To add some fun to the day, students and staff will have the option to participate in Costume Spirit Day on Friday, October 30th. Costumes are completely optional, and we ask that everyone follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable day for all:

  • Costumes must be school-appropriate.

  • Students who choose to participate should arrive at school dressed in their costumes. Please do not send makeup or hair products to school.

  • Costumes must allow students to participate fully in classroom activities, sit comfortably at their desks, and move safely throughout the building.

  • Masks and costumes that restrict vision or movement are not permitted.

  • Costumes may not promote violence, and accessories or props that could be used as weapons are not permitted.

We appreciate your help in making this a fun and safe day for our school community while supporting the Adopt a Family Program.

Friendly reminder: Please do not send food or candy to school. Thank you for your continued support!

A Message from the TES School Counselors:

Welcome Back! We have enjoyed welcoming your children back into our building and reconnecting with them over the past month! We look forward to supporting your child’s social-emotional growth and development throughout the school year.

Soon, we will begin our bi-weekly classroom lessons in grades Kindergarten-5. These lessons will take place from October through April. We will utilize the Second Step curriculum to teach students strategies for managing emotions, practicing empathy and kindness, developing a growth mindset, solving problems, and preventing bullying. Once lessons begin, we will be sure to keep you informed and share any updates or additional information through your child’s classroom teacher.

Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have about your child. We are here to support your family and serve as a resource whenever needed. Our website is currently under construction, and we will share an updated link with families as soon as it is ready. We look forward to hearing from you!

We know that during the first few days of school, families may choose to drop off and pick up their children as everyone settles into new routines. If your child’s dismissal plan will be different from their typical procedure, please email tesattendance@tyngsboroughps.org and include your child’s teacher on the email. This helps us ensure a safe and smooth dismissal for everyone.

October Update

It is hard to believe we are in the second month of school! As the weather is changing and flu season approaches we ask that you review the TPS Illness Protocols, this can be helpful to determine if you should keep your child home due to illness. Please reach out to your child’s health care provider for documentation if you would like your child’s absences to be medically excused.

Your Child’s Health

Please keep the health office notified of any changes in your child’s health status to include new medical diagnosis, fractures, sprains, concussions, new medical diagnosis such as diabetes, seizures, blood disorders, etc. This way we are able to work together to keep your child healthy and in school. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the health and well being of your child, please reach out.

Please make sure you have updated your child’s access to over the counter medications in school. This must be updated at the beginning of each school year and is completed on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This must be completed each school year. Emails were sent to parents over the summer. Please complete the form for each child enrolled in a TPS school (tabs across the top, one for each child). If the consent is not given each school calendar year, your child will not have access to over the counter medications. The over the counter medications available in the nurses office are Tylenol (acetaminophen), Motrin (ibuprofen), Tums (calcium carbonate), aquaphor, triple antibiotic ointment, and caladryl clear. If your child needs additional medications, doctor's orders are required.

TPS Medication Policy

Our medication policy complies with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Codes and Regulations (105 CMR 210.000) and the recommendations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH).

If your child uses a medication that may require administration during the school day that is not listed on our over the counter medication consent form, a signed physician’s order will be needed. Additionally, this order will need to be signed by the parent/guardian. If the medication required at school is a controlled substance (for example most ADHD medications) it will need to be delivered by an adult to a registered nurse in the health office. Please be aware all medications must be kept in the nurse’s office and be overseen by the Registered Nurse.

Life threatening allergies and asthma: Please send in action plans signed by the MD and parent/guardian, and medications to the Health Office ASAP! Please click the following links to access our school forms. Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Asthma Action Plan If your child’s physician’s office has their own form, we will accept it, providing it has all the necessary information.

Massachusetts Mandated School Screenings

Screenings are conducted in Tyngsborough Public Schools annually in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Regulations (refer to guidelines below) and will begin soon. Screening tests are not diagnostic in nature. They are designed simply to indicate students who may need further attention in a specific area.

TES Screenings

If a parent/guardian does not wish to have this screening done at school, they must send:

  1. A written request to exclude their child from participating in school screenings

  2. Please provide Written documentation from the family physician documenting their results of the screening if possible.

  3. 5th grade parents only: If you would like your child to have the scoliosis screening done at school, please fill out the Postural Screening Opt in Form

Please be sure your child brings an extra pair of shoes, clothes, and a refillable water bottle each day, and dress appropriately for gym class (sneakers please).

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the TES Health Office via telephone at (978) 649-1990 option 2. The HIPAA compliant fax number is 844-417-3492.
