10.17.25 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families:
As a reminder, we will not have students at school on Thursday the 23rd or Friday the 24th due to parent teacher conferences. With next week being the last week of the first quarter, we will have a three day Spirit Week! The daily themes are shared below and we hope your students will participate. Our next PAWS assembly is Halloween. Students may choose to dress up to show just how frighteningly good they are as we celebrate their great behavior! If your student chooses to participate, they can not wear masks or cover their face and no play weapons.
Peek at the week!
Kindergarten:
Reading - Students are learning to identify the main idea and important details in nonfiction texts while strengthening sound recognition and decoding.
Math - Students worked on representing numbers 6-10 with objects and written numerals.
Parent tips for at home support: Read picture books together and ask, “What was this story mostly about?” Count objects around the house (stairs, toys, snacks).
Grade 1
Reading - Students are practicing comprehension strategies and phonics skills to identify main ideas and supporting details.
Math - Students practice basic addition and subtraction facts and understand number patterns.
Parent tips for at home support: Ask “What happened first?” and “How did the story end?” after reading at home. Practice simple math facts with objects like snacks or coins.
Grade 2
Reading - Students locate key details and use text features (headings, charts) to find information.
Math - Students build understanding of place value and rounding.
Parent tips for at home support: Ask your child, “What is this text trying to teach us?” when reading a story at home. Use numbers in daily life (“What’s 10 more than 43?”).
Grade 3
Reading - Students analyze nonfiction structure and compare perspectives in texts.
Math - Students learn about area, perimeter, and using multiplication to solve geometry problems.
Parent tips for at home support: Ask your child to explain how an author organized a text when reading at home. Measure rectangles at home (tables, rugs) to find area.
Grade 4
Reading - Students analyze fiction and nonfiction for themes, structure, and supporting evidence.
Math - Students multiply multi-digit numbers and solve multi-step problems.
Parent tips for at home support: Ask, “What lesson did the character learn?” when reading a story at home. Practice multiplication facts daily with flashcards.
Grade 5
Reading - Students compare themes, analyze text structure, and evaluate how authors support ideas with evidence.
Math - Students add, subtract, and compare fractions with unlike denominators.
Parent tips for at home support: Ask, “What’s the main argument or message?” when reading a story at home. Use fraction examples in cooking or measuring.
New Nurse: I would like to welcome nurse De Lambo to Gearity. Nurse Ice will be supporting new schools so if you need supports from the nurse please call 320-4854 or email l_delambo@chuh.org.
Parent Teacher Conferences: The CHUH Schools schedule elementary conferences for the end of quarter 1 and quarter 3. Our Fall conferences will take place on October 23rd from 1pm - 7pm and October 24th from 8:30 - 11:45. Home room teachers will reach out in the next two weeks to schedule your conference. At the conference, the teacher will review your student's performance on beginning of the year nationally normed assessments and classroom based assessments. The teacher will also share information about your student's performance in class and discuss any supports that are needed to help them with mastering grade level standards. If you are unavailable during the conference dates, you can schedule a meeting with your children's teacher during their planning time throughout the school year. We are partners in your student's learning and look forward to developing a productive working relationship with your family.
PTA: Please consider joining the PTA! We are hosting an recruitment drive where the homeroom that has the most parents join the PTA will win an ice cream party. I just paid the $7.50 to join so the price is very reasonable. You do not need to attend all the meetings but we are asking that you consider volunteering for one of our PTA events this year. The next opportunity to volunteer is the Book Fair which will take place the week of the Math and Literacy Night! We need help with set up, the preview days, purchase days and break down. Thanks in advance!
