Eagle News
SME newsletter for families and the community
Dear SME Eagle Families,
I hope everyone has had a great week! At Six Mile Elementary, we believe it is important to develop the whole child. We work hard each day to help our students build responsibility, accountability, independence, and other important life skills.
One small skill we work on at school is ordering lunch each day. Our lunchroom offers four main entrées: Choice A, Choice B, Grilled Cheese, or Yogurt Plate. Students also have a choice of sides to go with their entrée.
To help our cafeteria workers serve students efficiently, we encourage our students to confidently tell the person serving them what they would like. Rather than waiting for the cafeteria worker to ask each student, we encourage students to say something like, “I have Choice A, and I would like baked beans and corn with that.” It may seem like a small thing, but it helps our cafeteria staff serve lunch more quickly, which gives our students more time to enjoy their meals.
The next time your family goes out to eat, you might encourage your child to order their own food. It is a simple way to practice independence and communication. These everyday life skills may seem small, but they help our students grow into confident, responsible young people who are prepared to take care of themselves and navigate the world around them.
Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to develop the whole child!
With Eagle Pride,
Melissa Terry
Principal, Six Mile Elementary
Grandparents can enter the cafeteria between 7:30 and 8:00. Muffins and coffee will be available for all grandparents. Students will go through the line and meet grandparents at a table. If all tables are full, students/grandparents can eat at picnic tables. After eating, grandparents may accompany students to their classroom before exiting the building. All grandparents should plan to give their hugs and kisses by 8:10. Thank you!
Best of the Nest
Each month our school focuses on a character trait for our students. Mrs. Orr goes into classrooms and teaches lessons to develop this trait. We also talk about it on the school news program.
This month our word is CREATIVITY. We will honor students that show this at our Best of the Nest party at the end of the month.
Girls on the Run
