Dear Families,

Happy Friday! We have officially wrapped up our first full week of school - which, in an interesting calendar anomaly, also happens to be our only full week of school in the entire month of September this year.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the 3rd and 4th Grade Open House last night. We had a great turnout, and the energy in the building was lots of fun. I am so grateful to our caregivers for showing up to partner with us, and to our teachers for bringing such warm enthusiasm after a long school day.

Looking ahead, we are excited to host our 5th–8th Grade Parent Info Night on Tuesday, September 29th. This 60-minute session is designed for caregivers to gain key insights into the 5–6 and 7–8 student experience. The evening will be split into two parts: a 25-minute presentation in the auditorium with Administration and our amazing team of Essential Arts, World Language, and other specialist teachers, followed by a 30-minute session in house areas hosted by your student’s core team. You'll learn about daily routines, team communication, curricular highlights, parent-teacher conferences, and more. Keep an eye out for a follow-up email and flyer with additional details. We look forward to seeing 5-8 caregivers on the 29th!

Switching gears to school safety, the Williston Safety Committee held its first meeting of the year last week. The committee’s mission is "to continuously improve the knowledge, skills, and preparedness related to personal and institutional safety, especially in the schools of Williston." I am pleased to report that we have already conducted two very successful fire/evacuation drills. Next week, keep an eye out for a letter providing information about our upcoming "Options-Based Response" safety drills planned for the weeks ahead.

These first 16 days of school have been filled with so much important work. As Equinox Teacher Tara Weegar recently shared with her students’ caregivers,

“We are still figuring each other out, still practicing ALL of our routines, and still having plenty of moments where we stop and say, 'Okay...let's try that again!' But we are making progress every single day, and I am so proud of this group.”

Well said, Tara - I couldn't agree more! Thank you for your ongoing partnership, and I hope you all have a restful and wonderful weekend!

Dear Williston School Families,

We are looking for two parent volunteers to join the Williston Schools Safety Team for the upcoming school year—one representative from ABS and one from WCS. The Safety Team works collaboratively to review school safety procedures, discuss facility security, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all our students and staff.

Meeting Details:

• Day: 2nd Wednesday of every month

• Time: 8:30 AM – 9:45 AM

• Where: Williston Central School

The WCS 4th grade chorus, also known as the Treble Cat Chorus, will begin rehearsing soon! If your child is interested in checking it out, please review the information below.

• Tuesdays after school, 2:50-4:00.

• Rehearsals for session 1 begin on Tuesday, September 29th

• The first two rehearsals are “open enrollment.” (9/29 and 10/6) Students may come to sit in and check it out with no obligation.

Williston Central School Athletics are open to all students grades 6th-8th. All practices start at 2:50 and end around 4:20. Students can be picked up at the rear entrance to the school, or take the activity bus.
