Message from Nicole Pease Principal
Hello DCS Families, it has been such a lovely week! We have moved to beginning our day outside which is so nice with the warm temperatures and without the bugs. Staff have started taking their classes outside to learn or to have some movement time. In honor of Earth Day students have been working on Earth Day posters which will be showcased at the Dub Hub, and they are so beautiful! The 3rd graders went on a walk earlier this week and picked up 4 pounds of trash! We have such a talented group of students! Jacki Neilssen has been It has been at DCS with music and it has been lovely to hear the sounds of music throughout the halls. She will be conducting the choir for the River Center's Benefit.
Next week will be much cooler than the current temperatures, so please make sure your child is prepared for the weather. We also have New Hampshire Dance Institute next week during Special and the students will be learning dances to perform on Friday! It is amazing what the students can learn in 5 days under the careful instruction of Abbie Hixon who is Vick Brown's daughter! We are so thankful to the DCF for supporting this opportunity for all our students! Have a great weekend, Nicole

Wellness with Kelly Parker
This week in wellness students began the week reviewing and practicing skills: underhand rolling, overhand throwing, volleying with a paddle and balloon, and jump rope. We talked about 'March Madness' and completed activities: Would You Rather Basketball, March Madness Make It or Miss It, and make one, take one. The health focus for March is nutrition. Students learned about the food groups and how each group helps support specific parts of their body. They completed a drawing of a healthy meal, learned how food provides energy for their body, and why food choices are important. Finally, we reviewed underhand tossing and learned about the game of Corn Hole. Thank you for encouraging healthy choices,
Kindergarten with Deb Lang
Spring has sprung and we've been taking advantage of the beautiful weather by moving our morning break outside, and having lunch at the picnic tables here and there. In math, we finished our flat and solid shape unit and have begun our last math unit of the year- bringing all the acquired skills together. In literacy, students have learned many digraphs- /ck/, /sh/, /th/ (voiced and unvoiced) as well as /ch/. We'll spend some time next week practicing reading passages using all the digraphs learned thus far. In science, we've been talking about Earth Day and decorated posters for an Earth Day poster contest at the Dub Hub.
As always, be sure to check out pics of the latest happenings here.
First and Second Grade with Heather Fletcher
It has been a busy and creative time in our classroom! First and second graders recently wrapped up their poetry unit by writing a Japanese form of poetry called a haiku. To celebrate their hard work, students created beautiful hand-painted cherry blossom trees and hung their poems from the branches. Be sure to stop by our hallway to see this lovely display!
In science, we’ve been exploring habitats from around the world. Students have learned that all habitats provide food, water, and shelter, and they’ve discovered how plants and animals adapt to survive in different environments. Working in small groups, students are now creating posters to showcase what they’ve learned about their chosen habitat.
Speaking of posters, our students put incredible thought and creativity into their Earth Day projects. Their posters will be displayed at the Dub Hub this weekend—be sure to check them out!
In literacy, both classes are continuing to build strong reading and spelling skills. We are focusing on R-controlled vowels and other vowel teams. In math, first graders are working hard on adding and subtracting double-digit numbers within 100.
Thank you for your continued support—we love sharing all the great learning happening in our classroom!
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade with Kristen Garland and Deb Quinn
The 3/4/5 team enjoyed our walk up to the Dublin Public Library last week. We said our goodbyes and thank yous to Karen Madigan, who is moving back to Missouri to be with family. If your child has any overdue books, please kindly return them to the DPL! Both classes also spent quality time creating beautiful “Save the Earth” posters for the town contest.
For Social/Emotional Learning, Mrs. Garland’s class continues working on different ways to regulate their bodies when they are deregulated for various reasons. Across the hall, Mrs. Quinn/class is focused on collaboration.
During Language Arts, the third graders worked hard on two cumulative projects for the Native American Unit. They created individual illustrated posters that demonstrate their learning about the different peoples in all the regions of North America. Also, they wrote a class news article on the Abenaki People of New Hampshire. This week, the students are starting a new CKLA literacy unit, reading Charlotte’s Web. The fourth- and fifth-graders are continuing our poetry study and beginning a mythology study.
For Math - 3rd: We are enjoying our new unit on measurement. This week's section focuses on liquid measurement and telling time on an analog clock to the minute. The fourth graders have started a new unit that focuses on multiplying and dividing large numbers. At the same time, the fifth graders have started a new Unit focused on Multiplying Fractions.
For Science, third-grade is learning about weather through Mystery Science hands-on activities. While the 4th/5th graders study the solar system
Music with Jackie Neilssen
The K/1 class studied Tempo (the speed of the music). We discussed fancy music words like Presto and Largo, and Accelerando! They loved using different props and visuals to identify, sing, and play a variety of songs and explore changing tempos in the music. The hand puppets were a big hit as we had them move through the "rainbow forest" at different speeds.
The 2nd grade class continued their study of the music alphabet (DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI DO), and learned about the music staff. They looked back at some songs they had learned in the past with a new point of view, and analyzed the steps and skips of the music.
The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders added more notes to their recorder skills and worked hard to practice reading music on the lines and spaces. They used their knowledge to do a lot more independent recorder practice.
