Decoding the After School "Fine"
You pick your child up from school and ask “how was your day?” and get a one-word answer: “fine.” After a long day at school, many students experience “after-school restraint collapse” and are simply too tired to process a basic question. Try these simple prompts and avoid the dreaded “fine.”:
- “What made you laugh today?”
- “Did you see anyone do something really kind?”
- “Tell me about the most boring part of your morning.”
- “Let’s get a snack first, and you can tell me one good thing later.”
Quick Tip: Give them about 15 minutes to decompress before asking about their day or homework. :)
Staff: Protecting Your Peace
Thank you to our teachers, administration and support staff for kicking off a great school year. Please remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup. Try picking one of these small boundaries to protect your peace:
- The 10-Minute Buffer: Give yourself 10 minutes at the end of the day with your door closed—no emails, no grading—just to transition out of "teacher mode."
- Leave Work at Work: Try to pick at least two nights this week where you do not open your laptop or check school messages after you leave the building.
- The "One-Thing" Priority: When your to-do list has 30 items, highlight the top three that actually matter for tomorrow. The rest can wait.

Event Information
Join us October 1st to cheer and support our Tri-County Volleyball team. On this night, we’re coming together to shine a light on something that matters just as much as physical health—mental health. Student-athletes face pressure, stress, and challenges both on and off the court. Let’s remind our students that it’s okay to ask for help, talk about how they’re feeling, and support one another. Watch our ladies play for more than a win—they play for awareness, connection, and mental well-being.
