Congratulations to Genoveva Gonzalez, student information support specialist in the District Office, on being named CCSD's January Employee of the Month!

Ms. Gonzalez has worked for CCSD since 2007 and has been with the Office of Information Support Services for 13 years. In her role, she assists families with setting up and making changes to their Parent Portal accounts and also provides training and support to schools to provide the same assistance and maximize the use of our Infinite Campus system so that families and students can get the information they need, when they need it.

Ms. Gonzalez was nominated by one of our building leaders, who praised her for taking on extra responsibilities recently due to current vacancies in her office, but still maintaining the office's standard of excellent customer service. She is one of the many CCSD employees whose tireless, behind-the-scenes work is invaluable and keeps operations flowing smoothly.

Ms. Gonzalez was surprised with the award by Interim Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Scott and publicly recognized at the Thursday, Jan. 15 Board of Education meeting.

Anyone in the community may nominate any full-time CCSD employee with at least one full year of service for this award at bit.ly/CCEmployeeAward or by filling out the form directly below!

Partnership Helps Provide Eye Exams for Students at School-Based Health Center

Twenty-one CCSD students recently received a free and complete eye exam and selected prescription eyeglasses in a December vision clinic at the Clarke Middle Health Center after they had vision challenges identified in initial school-based screenings and a demonstrated barrier to private vision care.

The exams were conducted in partnership with the non-profit organization Prevent Blindness Georgia at the Clarke Middle Health Center, one of four school-based health centers across CCSD that provide basic healthcare services for CCSD students and staff throughout the county. The Clarke Middle Health Center is staffed by University of Georgia School of Medicine faculty and nurses, along with Augusta University/UGA Medical Partnership students.

Read more here about this partnership and how it is helping students in need improve their vision so they can thrive in the classroom!

If you have concerns about your child's vision, you may contact your school nurse for support and a referral.

Protect Your Student and Yourself Against the Flu; Schedule a Vaccine Appointment at a CCSD School-Based Health Center!

We are in the height of flu season, and that can have a significant impact on student and staff attendance in CCSD. Flu activity has been widespread and severe across the state, and cases are likely to continue to increase in the coming weeks, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

If you have not received a flu shot yet this season and have no medical conditions preventing you from doing so, DPH strongly urges you to take advantage of the health benefits the flu vaccine provides as soon as possible. The CDC recommends that individuals over the age of 6 months receive a once-yearly flu vaccine – not just for their own protection, but to protect others around them who may be more vulnerable to the flu and its complications, including the elderly and immunocompromised.

Flu shots and sick-visit appointments are available for CCSD students and staff at all four of the district's school-based health centers:

  • Clarke Middle Health Center - 706-208-1190
  • Classic City Health Center - 706-389-1095
  • Coile Health Center - 706-352-9244
  • Hilsman Health Center - 706-546-7463

The flu vaccine is widely available for the general public at the Clarke County Health Department, doctors’ offices, grocery stores, neighborhood clinics, and pharmacies.

And, as always, we encourage our students, staff and families to practice good hand hygiene and always stay home when you are sick. For more guidelines on when you should keep your child at home, go to our nursing services page at www.clarke.k12.ga.us/nursing.

Tips can be submitted online at www.clarke.k12.ga.us/tipline or by phone by dialing 706-353-1737.
