Veterans Day Celebrations
November 11, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
SMS Celebrated Veterans Day with an assembly honoring our veterans and our military students.
Sheridan Special Election
Sheridan School District voters will decide in a special election on November 18 whether to extend the district’s current 36.0 millage rate for nine more years to fund several key facility projects—without increasing the tax rate. (The state mandates all districts have at least 25 mills; Sheridan has 11 additional mills set to expire in 2047 that would now be extended to 2056 if the proposal passes.) The district’s millage rate will remain at 36 mills regardless of the outcome of the election.
The extension would allow the district to use $11.5 million in state partnership funds to help build a new East End Elementary School, complete with a safe room shared with East End Middle School. Other proposed projects include a multi-use covered practice pavilion in Sheridan, safety and security upgrades across campuses (such as new cameras and signage), and districtwide renovations to bathrooms, flooring, and lighting.
Watch this two-minute video as Superintendent Chad Pitts provides more detail: https://shorturl.at/vXeVD.

*Students have a chance to earn MINGA points for participating in the drive.
Fun at the Zoo
Mr. Anderson's class got to turn their animal unit into reality on a field trip to the zoo. Thank you Mr. Anderson for putting together this opportunity for our students! They had a blast!
SMS Shark Tank!
Sheridan Middle School has its own Shark Tank! To celebrate wrapping up our Ancient India Unit, Mrs. Walker's 6th grade classroom researched the Golden Age of India during the Gupta Empire. Each team became a mock business, crafting convincing pitches to potential investors about their Ancient Indian inventions. Students were judged on enthusiasm, knowledge, and selling skills for a shot at the grand prize. Exciting, educational, and creative efforts all around!

EXCEL: Pay it Forward
When someone does something nice for you, do something nice for someone else. Doing this is a wonderful way to continue the cycle of gratitude. “Paying it forward” is a way of showing love and kindness to others. It could be something as simple as holding the door open for someone or buying coffee for a stranger. Once a week, share as a family one time you “paid it forward” during the week.
Caring & Sharing Fundraiser
Thank you to all who have purchased wristbands this past week! All of the money raised goes towards sponsoring Angel Tree students from OUR community! It is not too late to purchase a wristband! Purchase one before school or during the day on Monday. The activity schedule may be adjusted some due to weather.

Courage in Action - Arkansans Who Serve Our Country
Arkansas has an important story to tell about soldiers and veterans. From the early days of America to wars in modern times, people from Arkansas have served with courage. Veterans and their families have given time, hard work, and even their lives to protect our freedom.
In this lesson, you will learn about Arkansans who fought in different wars and a famous general named Douglas MacArthur. You will also see how Arkansas honors veterans with cemeteries, health care, schools, and special programs. Finally, you will discover how activities like Operation Gratitude connect Veterans Day and Thanksgiving through acts of kindness and thankfulness.
By the end of this lesson, you will understand how Arkansas veterans have helped protect freedom, how people show thanks for their service, and how you can honor them too.
