A Message from your IB Coordinator - September 2025
Back to School Nite!
Personal Project
The 25 week culminating MYP Project for all 10th grade students was introduced today, September 5th in Mrs. Priest's class. Students will be given a chance to explore their interests and hobbies while reflecting on the ways they use and develop their ATL skills. Their project will be submitted and formally assessed by members of the IB community and the basis of the true IB MYP Certificate for the 25/26 school year. Ask your students more about this project!
Several of our former IB MYP students have turned their Personal Project into projects of passion! Two students published their poetry and are currently selling their books on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Two students composed music that can now be found on Spotify. Another student took his love of photography and is now taking pictures for the UCI Men's soccer team.
While this project is a requirement for the IB Certificate this year, we hope that students develop another facet of who they are that is NOT academically centered. By working with a teacher on campus, they can also allow adults to get to know students on a different level lending the experience to rich and meaningful letters of recommendations for future college applications.
Ask your students what their passon projects will involve for the next 25 weeks!
IBSA Fundraisers
We are currently operating without an IB Booster Board. For this reason, I am asking for your help and involvement. Fundraisers offset the costs of the events such as the MYP Celebration. In the absence of robust fundraising, these costs will be passed on to IB families to ensure students continue to receive the graduation regalia and celebrations to honor their accomplishments.
Here's how YOU can help:
- Football Stadium Clean-Up
IBSA receives $300 per game in which we clean up the stadium seats following football games. If you or your student are attending a game, we encourage you to stick around for 30-45 mins so we can help our Husky community. Service hours can be earned with these events. - September
-At a date to be determined, we will be hosting a fundraiser in partnership with White Lyon. 20% of the proceeds will be given to IBSA. Help us spread the word by sharing the flyers when they are released.
-We will also be hosting monthly Zoom meetings to plan for our IB Day of Service on November 15, 2025 and the IB International Festival on Feb 17, 2026. If you and/or members of our community would like to participate in either event, please plan on joining the first meeting on Monday, September 8th at 6 pm. Zoom link available below. - October
We will host a Sees Candy Fundraiser. Link will be made available. Please share our flyer and link to our store between Oct 15 - Oct 31. 20% of all proceeds will come back to IBSA. - November
On Saturday November 15th we will host our first annual IB Day of Service. Various student groups will be working with different non-profit organizations including the Surfriders Foundation, a Pitbull Rescue and Color a Smile to give back to the community. If you know of a non-profit organization we can provide service for, we would love your help and collaboration to their benefit. Join our Sept 8th planning meeting on Zoom to help us kick off this event. - December
-IB Skate Party will be held at IceTown in Riverside in celebration of our 1st semester growth! - February
-On February 10th, we will have a fundraiser in partnership with Panda Express. 20% of all proceeds comes back to IBSA

As you can see, we have a lot planned in the coming months. Your help would be greatly appreciated! Please come plan events with us, spread the word on our fundraisers or contact me to find out how you can help!

- 5 hours of Direct Service
- 5 hours of Indirect Service
- 5 hours of Actionable Resesarch
- 5 hours of Advocacy
- Their Final Reflection Paper
Deadlines are quarterly with the final reflection paper due by April 30.

IB MYP CALENDAR
In an effort to support robust communications of deadlines with students and families, our IB MYP teachers will be continuously updating the IB MYP Calendar. Please use this calendar weekly to support your students in organizing their time and managing their stress levels as new deadlines approach.
Should you have questions about the pending deadlines, we ask that you send your students to discuss the concerns directly to their teachers. While we value your communication, we are working towards empowering our students with the ability to advocate for their own needs directly to the teachers at large.
Please be advised that as IB Coordinator, my role is to support the program, teachers and students. It is beyond the scope of my role to dictate teaching or grading practices to my colleagues and peers. I will work with students and teachers to advise them of necessary resources to pursue success. Matters related to the coursework should be discussed directly with the teacher of record.
