ROOTED IN CHRIST
Mission Statement
St. John's Lutheran School exists to educate each child in a Christ-centered environment for a life of service to God and man.
Devotion
Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ at St. John’s! October is a time of change- both in terms of the full bloom of the fall season and in providing a beginning to a festival season of the church with the celebration of Reformation. Whether we are ready for changes or not, changes bring refreshment and growth to our lives. Jesus calls us to grow in him through our reception of God’s Word and our desire to see the Word bring change through destroying our sinful nature by moving us to repentance and bringing us new life through forgiveness. This is the heart of the change we will celebrate on Reformation Sunday, the Lord’s church willingly seeking to do God’s will through the practice of repentance. As long as sin endures in the world there will be no shortage of bad examples or temptations which the church can fall into. We as the church are always seeking to reform our practice when necessary in order that the life and salvation won by Jesus leads the way in our life as the church. We pray the Lord would reform our hearts so that we as the church can be the people He created us to be. As you make your way through shorter days and the other changes October brings, may your days be marked above all else by the change the Holy Spirit works in us to daily and richly forgive our sins. And may our Lord return soon to bring the greatest change of all- eternal life to all believers in Christ!
- Pastor Fuller
Collect for Reformation Day: Almighty and gracious Lord, pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep us steadfast in Your grace and truth, protect and defend us in times of temptation, defend us against all enemies, and grant to Your Church Your saving peace; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
