Greetings,

There was plenty of energy at Springton Lake this week as students continued to connect, participate, and show their Spartan spirit. Clubs are now underway, and we are pleased to see so many students getting involved. Students may still sign up for clubs through October 9.

This week, we launched our annual Fall Fundraiser. Funds raised will support student activities, school events, and experiences that make Springton Lake a positive and engaging place for students. Today, the ducks arrived for our first Duck Party! If you have not yet registered your student or shared the fundraiser with family and friends, there is still time to participate. Every contribution makes a difference.

We are also excited to see continued progress on our new athletic turf field and all-weather track, pictured below. This project will provide expanded opportunities for our students, teams, and school community for years to come. This week’s photos also highlight the excitement of our fundraiser kickoff and our girls soccer team’s 2–1 win over Valley Forge Middle School. Congratulations to the team on a hard-earned victory!

We are proud of our student-athletes, who continue to represent Springton Lake through their effort, teamwork, and school spirit throughout the fall sports season.

With gratitude,

Principal Buterbaugh

The Springton Lake Middle School Salute to Service Club is excited to announce our “Spartans Salute to Service” Fundraiser!

We will be selling a variety of long-sleeved shirts that are a meaningful way for our SLMS community to honor and recognize the men and women who have sacrificed and served our country.

All funds raised through this fundraiser will directly support the schoolwide annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. As a new service project, SLMS students will create care packages for active-duty and retired military personnel as a way to show our gratitude and appreciation for their service and sacrifice.

Show Your Spartan Pride & Support a Great Cause!

The online store is open to all Springton Lake Middle School families and staff.

Orders must be placed by Wednesday, October 14 at 12:00 PM.

Shirts will be delivered to Springton Lake and distributed to students and staff once orders are fulfilled.

We hope you’ll consider purchasing a shirt and helping our students continue this meaningful tradition of service, gratitude, and giving back. Staff and students will be encouraged to wear the shirts on various spirit days including Veteran's Day on November 11th.

Thank you for supporting the SLMS Salute to Service Club!

Lunch & LIsten in the Library Lunch & LIsten in the Library

During the months of October and November, SLMS will be participating in the Global Read Aloud. Students can choose to spend their lunch in the library for a Lunch and Listen experience with friends. While eating lunch, Ms. Azeff will be reading a story. There are three different books to choose from:

Tuesdays - The Second Life of Snap

Wednesdays - The Lion's Run

Thursdays - One Word, Six Letters

All books are available to all grade levels. Students can come to as many as they like. The sign-up is in their Schoology lunch course.

Once they’ve started the books, participants will join the Global Read Aloud and get to meet other students around the country and/or the world who are reading the same books. Students can tell them about life at SLMS, ask questions about school where they live, and share thoughts on the stories.

To keep classrooms focused and learning uninterrupted, all wireless devices, including cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, and similar devices, must be OFF and AWAY during the school day unless a teacher gives a specific academic reason to use them. Students will be reminded each morning to power down their devices.

Please let your child know that you will not be texting or calling during school hours. If a student needs to reach a parent, a staff member can provide permission. In an emergency, the main office is the best way to get in touch. More details are available in the Springton Lake Student Handbook.

Thank you for helping us create a safe, distraction-free learning environment!

Attendance Attendance

Regular school attendance is essential for success in school and contributes to the development of good work habits, a sense of responsibility, and self-discipline.

Call our Absentee Voicemail Hotline (610-627-6500, ext. 2) each day the student is absent. Absence is the non-attendance of a student on those days in which school is in session.

  • In addition to the telephone call, a written note, or completing this FORM indicating the reason for the absence must be submitted upon the student’s return to school.

All families will continue to receive an automated telephone call whenever a student is marked absent in homeroom. The call will be sent regardless if you have called the attendance hotline. This is an enhanced safety procedure that we are pleased to have available.

Homecoming - A note from PHS Principal Roth Homecoming - A note from PHS Principal Roth

At Penncrest, we love having our Future Lions from Springton Lake come to our Friday night football games. In order to ensure that everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience we would like to remind students and families of the following:

- Students that are in middle school are expected to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is always a sizable crowd, and we do not have the staff to supervise children that are dropped off and left unattended.

- Bags are prohibited. Students cannot bring a schoolbag or other bag unless it is a small handbag. If a student does bring a bag, it may be confiscated.

- Students may not bring footballs or any other athletic equipment. Anyone who is throwing a ball around the stadium complex may have the ball confiscated and/or be asked to leave.

- Any student who does not comply with the directives of school security may be subject to discipline, as the Rose Tree Media School District Code of Conduct applies to all district activities.

Again, we love having our middle school students at Penncrest games and other events. We want to share these reminders to ensure that everyone can enjoy themselves as they support the players, cheerleaders, and marching band. If you have never been to a game, I strongly encourage you to come out and enjoy a night at Penncrest with 1000 of your friends and neighbors. I promise you that our focus is more about building community and having fun than it is enforcing the rules above!
