Happy February!
January was quite the roller coaster, but we made it! As we step into February, we welcome the start of spring sports and a month filled with meaningful celebrations. This month, we will honor Black History Month and embrace Random Acts of Kindness Month—two great opportunities to learn, grow, and spread positivity.
I’d like to take a moment to brag on our students. At the beginning of the school year, students took the iReady benchmark assessment, followed by a mid-year assessment in December. The assessment determines a growth goal for each student, based on their initial results, and I’m thrilled to share that 322 of our students met their goal! We are incredibly proud of their hard work, as well as the dedication of our teachers. To celebrate this achievement, students enjoyed s’mores, hot chocolate, and games during 7th period. A special thank you to Mrs. Mesha Smith and Mrs. Tracey Horton for planning this year’s Black History Month program for our students. If you visit our campus in February, you’ll see inspiring Black History banners and bulletin boards, made possible by a grant written by our wonderful secretary, Mrs. Hilchey. We want our students to honor history and learn from the incredible figures who have shaped our world.
Another exciting event this month is the DMS Career Fair! Representatives from local businesses will be on campus to showcase different career paths, helping our students explore their futures. Last year’s fair was a huge success, and we’re looking forward to another fantastic turnout.
