Dakota Minute
Principal Update
I want to extend a sincere thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to see great success with our multi-age advisory program, which has been wonderful for building peer mentorship and community across grade levels. As we strive to maintain this positive environment, we need your help regarding classroom distractions. We’ve noticed a recent spike in large, squishy fidgets (like NeeDoh) that are becoming messy and disruptive; therefore, we ask that any fidgets brought to school be no larger than the student's hand, quiet, and non-gel or foam-based to prevent leaks or spills. We appreciate your partnership in keeping our classrooms focused on learning and clean.

Health Office/Attendance Update
I know we are still in the midst of the sick season. If your student is not feeling well during the school day then they must go to the Health Office. Our Health Office will reach out to families if your student is not well enough to stay in school.
If your student reaches out to you to go home during the school day and it is not the Health Office contacting the parent/guardian, the absence will not be excused through our Attendance Office.
As a reminder, when calling the Attendance Line, please leave a detailed voicemail. Voicemails are checked often. We are not always able to answer the phone; as we we are helping other students and families. You can also email our Attendance Office at dmmsattendance@isd77.org
If you have any questions, please reach out myself or Assistant Principal Henderson
DMMS PTA Update
Hello Families, Faculty, and Friends,
Donut Party and School Assembly:
On March 6, the students in Ms. Brezina, Mr. Buttell, and Mr. Smith received donuts for raising the most funds for the PTA this year.
While enjoying their donuts, students were asked about planning a school wide assembly. A majority of the students indicate that they would like to do a student v. teacher competition. The kids were excited to help with ideas and many willing to volunteer themselves and a few staff members they would like to invite to participate.
Stay tuned for more details and let me know if you want to volunteer.
School Events and Concessions - Thank you Volunteers:
PTA members and DMMS staff also discussed the idea of providing concessions at events next year. Recently the PTA ran concessions at the speech tournament at Dakota Meadows and are very grateful for our volunteers.
The group is exploring ways similar events could become a small but consistent fundraising opportunity for student programs and enrichment. If you are able to volunteer next year, please let us know. Once we gauge interest, we can start looking at which events are well suited for a concession stand.
PTA Funding Highlight:
SPED recently went on a field trip. Students worked on their money skills at the movie theater ordering a snack while they enjoyed the movie, Hopper. The kids had a wonderful time. Thanks for supporting our students!
Conferences - Appreciation to Local Businesses:
The PTA would like to thank the Loose Moose and Ummies for their generous donations to conference meals! This is one of the ways that the PTA support DMMS faculty by providing dinner The teachers are there teaching all day and meeting with families all evening, and we appreciate their dedication.
Next Meeting - Outdoor Space Location and Equipment Discussion:
Our next meeting is March 23 at 6:00 p.m. at DMMS. If you are not available to be in person, please join remotely and have your voice heart. Talk to your kid and seek what they would like to see outside at their school.
We are hoping for a good turnout to start talking about providing the kids with an outdoor area that they can burn off some energy. Currently the kids spend their recess in the parking lot. They used to have a grass area, but it was replaced by the new tennis courts (which are great).
The PTA and DMMS faculty and facility operations are working together to make this happen. Please come to the next meeting with your ideas and hopes for this project.
Sincerely,
Meghan Maes
DMMS PTA President

5th Grade Visits to DMMS
Incoming 2026-27 middle school students (current 5th grade students) will have an opportunity to visit the middle school that their elementary school feeds into (DMMS) in late April and early May.
These visits during the regular school day give students a chance to experience the building, meet staff, ask questions, and get a preview of what life as a middle schooler will be like.
During the visit, students will tour the school, learn about schedules and classes, and hear from staff and current DMMS students. The goal is to help students feel comfortable and excited about the transition to middle school.
More details, including specific dates for your elementary school student, will be shared with families as the visits get closer.
