Bike To School Week May 19-23 Bike To School Week May 19-23

Bike to School Next Week

Dear Redwood families,

We will have our Bike to School Week week May 19th to the 23rd. It is a great time of year to clean the cobwebs, oil the chain and wheels, check the brakes, and fill up the tires. As we proceed with Bike Week, let’s remember a few rules.

School Rules

1. We ask that everyone wear a helmet.

2. We will park bikes in the front of the school. There will be cones separating grade levels.

3. We ask that you use all official crosswalks to cross Redwood Blvd. and to enter the front of Redwood.

4. Bikes must be walked when entering school property.

5. Bikes should not be walked between parked cars, moving cars, or in front or behind buses.

6. Bike riders will be dismissed at 3:15.

Outside the school

1. Please wear a helmet.

2. Talk about bike safety with your child.

3. Choose the safest path to get to school.

4. Stop at every intersection, even when you are on the sidewalk. Look in every direction at any intersection for traffic.

5. Ride in a smooth, straight, predictable manner.

6. Be able to stop quickly.

7. Wear bright colors.

8. Ride with friends. This is the best rule for an enjoyable ride.

Riding our bikes teaches our children the importance of physical fitness and an awareness on how to save our environment by riding a bike instead of driving a car. It opens the door to conversations on safety, trust, and family enjoyment. Please consider joining Bike Week and making it a safe event for all.

Field Day Volunteers Needed!

Hello Parents,

Field day is Friday, May 30th. We are looking for parent volunteers for the times posted below. You will be asked to run a station when volunteering. There will be a total of ten stations. Station cards will be posted for you to read to the students.

Also, please plan to stay after the morning session or come early to the afternoon session for our free catered Volunteer Appreciation Lunch from Salad Kraze between 11:35am - 12:45pm in the courtyard inside Redwood.

In the event that the weather is not working in our favor, Field Day will be cancelled. There will be NO make-up day. This decision will be made Friday morning and you will be notified of any changes.

Electronic Student Devices - cell phones and watches

As more students bring cell phones and watches with wi-fi and data capabilities, it is

important to remember and inform your children about the policy of using them while at

school. During school hours, students must keep the phone in the locker/cubby or

backpack and have it turned off. If a parent needs to contact their child or a child needs

to contact a parent, that communication must go through the school and in most cases

the main office. Watches are another area where communication may occur if wi-fi or

data are enabled. Students may wear watches and use the watches for time telling

purposes or tracking their steps and other non-communication purposes. However, if

students and parents are using the watch to call and text each other, those devices will

be viewed more for communication and will be asked to be put away each day like a cell

phone. Thank you for your attention to this matter and following these rules.

Looking Ahead

Over the summer months you will receive an email notifying you to complete your student's back-to-school forms via your PowerSchool Parent Account. All forms are to be completed prior to the first day of school. This is a one-stop shop for updating your child’s emergency and medical information as well as signing off on the annual permission forms for school district policies.

If you have more than one child in the school system, you only need one PowerSchool Parent Account. All of your children, regardless of building attendance, are to be added to your one account BEFORE you start completing the back-to-school forms.

If you have any questions about your PowerSchool Parent Account, please contact:

  • Maria Szarek - (440) 933-4829 or
  • Theresa Martin - (440) 933-0984
