A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear PES community,
Last week, our third graders wrapped up the learn to swim program at the Bath YMCA. Thank you to Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Polizotto, and Ms. Crowley for supervising this wonderful program for students.
Eat the Rainbow! 🌈 We have had a blast dressing in the colors of the rainbow this week and trying new foods. Thank you to our PTA for volunteering their time each morning to create colorful snacks for our students to try. Thank you also to Ms. Anna for helping to continue this fun and important project event, which provides opportunities for students to be exposed to new foods. Nutrition and a balanced diet are essential to student growth and development.
Fifth grade students were able to visit the vernal pools on Thursday morning. The vernal pool education program in fifth grade is in collaboration with Phippsburg’s Conservation Committee. Each spring, as the weather starts to warm, amphibians are on the move. They actively migrate to find new habitats for reproduction.
Fourth grade students traveled to Jewell Cemetery with Mr. Vande on Tuesday. They had a live history lesson about some of our ancestors that lived in Phippsburg, Maine.
On Thursday, we welcome Katie Coppens, a local author and teacher in the area. Katie specializes in nonfiction science based writing.
Reminder - Recess Gear: 🧥 ⛈️ It is very important to send your student to school with the proper equipment to be outside for recess, especially on rainy days. If it is not pouring outside, we are getting kids outside to play. Boots and rain jackets are essential, so we are able to take all students outside. We are also still seeing some cooler temperatures, so a warm fleece or winter jacket and a hat are still encouraged on some days.
Together we Learn: 🎶🎨 Please join us on Friday morning from 8:20-9:20, for a community arts and music celebration. Students will be rotating through five stations in the morning. We will have snack making, dancing, art, and literature activities set up for students to enjoy. Special adults will be able to join their student/s for the morning’s events.
Arts and Crafts Club: 🖼️ There is still room for kids to sign up to participate in the arts and craft club on Wednesday mornings 8am-9:20am. This is an opportunity for kids to create one-of-a-kind crafts and longer range projects. The club is run by Sarah Mancini who ran our Theater Club. All supplies are included.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Nina Willette, Principal
