It's not every day we celebrate our first decade of tackling barriers for marginalized youth across the Chicagoland! When we decided to mark the occasion with a gala, we knew we wanted to have a celebration, but more importantly, we knew we wanted to make an impact on our students. These past ten years were all about their stories, hopes, and dreams. In the next iCan Dream Center chapter, we continue the mission to connect youth to innovative special education services. We will continue to respond to the urgent need to slow the school to prison pipeline in suburban Chicago and beyond. We remain committed to making a positive contribution by fostering an education setting where at-risk youth have access to the skills, resources, and opportunties to thrive beyond their labels.

YOU CAN HELP US GET TO THE NEXT STEP.

On October 5th, we are fundraising for the Bridge to Work Project, a critical equity-rich initiative that strives to give students who are exiting high school an opportunity to continue special education transition services on campus of their local community college.

All funds will ensure students have access to high-skill, high-wage workforce opportunities after high school in industries such as medical, information technology, trucking and manufacturing, and much more.

YOUR ATTENDANCE MATTERS.

Harvest of Dreams Harvest of Dreams

Last spring, filmmaker Daniel Rodriguez asked the question: How can the iCan Dream Center maintain a 100% high school graduation rate when its population is considered one of the hardest to work with? Harvest of Dreams - Ten Years of Success Stories at the iCan Dream Center is a collection of stories from our students throughout the past decade. A longer version of the film will air at the October 5th gala. In the meantime, we invite you to have a peak at the trailer today!

We are so excited to tell you about two incredible high school students in the community you should know! Bella and Mia Narciso are sisters from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School and Marist High School who started a literacy foundation to strengthen reading outcomes for at-risk high school students in the community. Through a peer-to-peer partnership they initiated with the iCan Dream Center, the Turn the Page Foundation provides personalized, cutting-edge, equity forward reading technolgoy for every high school student served at iCan Dream Center. The intiative is working! Students' reading scores are improving daily with some students scoring over the 12th grade level! How is that for #inclusivitymatters?! Watch out world, Bella and Mia (and our Dreamers!) are coming for you!

Parenting is hard. It's a lot easier with support at hand.

Our parent retreat is a free, monthly support group open to any parent in the community navigating the complexities of parenting a child with intense needs.

Sessions are 90 minutes in length and include free, theapeutic childcare for young children.

Parents and children both enjoy dinner with their peers and children will enjoy a fun activity with their school day staff. Parents will receive 30-minutes of skill-based workshops over dinner this year and then flow into the classroom with our Parent Coach, Lavelle Smith Hall, back for year three facilitating sessions focused on guiding parents through their pain points.

Please RSVP to Sarah at 708-798-4200 by September 25th.
