Prayer for the Virtue of Respect

Loving God,

You created each of us in Your image and likeness,

and You call us to love one another as Jesus loves us.

Help us to grow in the virtue of Respect.

Teach us to treat ourselves, others, and all of Creation with care and kindness.

May our words be gentle,

our actions be thoughtful,

and our choices reflect Your love.

Jesus, help us to listen when others speak,

to include those who feel left out,

and to honour the dignity of every person,

even when we disagree.

Holy Spirit, guide our hearts

so that we show respect at school, at home, and in our community.

May we be patient, forgiving, and peaceful,

and may our lives be a sign of God’s love to all.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

February Virtue: Respect

For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a servant to all, so that I might win more of them. (1 Cor. 9:19)

God wants us to treat all people with the respect they deserve.

Respect is seeing the goodness in others. It helps us to see others as God sees them, to accept them as they are, and to treat them with dignity.

From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, a respectful person...

  • Has a confident, positive sense of self and respect for the dignity and welfare of others

  • Honours the rights, responsibilities and contributions of self and others

  • Values and honours the important role of family in society

  • Values the environment and uses resources wisely

  • Honours the faith traditions, world religions and life journeys of all people of goodwill

Black History Month

The 2026 theme, Black History 365: Inspiring Hope - Reclaiming Narratives, challenges us to move beyond a single month of recognition and embrace a continuous, year-round commitment to truth, representation, and celebration. This theme identifies a call to action and an opportunity to reclaim narratives that centre the voices of Black individuals and communities, and to offer counter narratives that reflect the depth, diversity, and richness of Black history and heritage. By uplifting these stories, we offer a chance for students to remember the narratives that depict the presence of Black communities across Canada, to redefine the narratives that have been told through a narrow lens and to rejoice in the narratives that showcase truth, joy and resistance.

We Share the Air

We would like to inform you that our school continues to participate in “We Share the Air”, a scent sensitivity awareness campaign. There are students attending this school who suffer from potentially life-threatening asthmatic conditions triggered by air pollutants. Exposure even to minimal odours may cause potentially life-threatening reactions. Very common severe chemical triggers are perfume, cologne, scented products and personal care products (such as hairspray and body spray). These products may cause severe reactions for students. The safety and well-being of all our students is a priority. To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, please refrain from wearing scented personal products complying with our Scent Free Zone campaign at school and all school events. Please ensure that all caregivers are also aware of this campaign. If you have any questions, please talk to your child’s teacher or the school staff. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting a safe learning environment for all students.

Kiss n Ride, Student Drop Off and Parking Reminders

Thank you very much to the many parents who safely use the parking lot and the Kiss’n’Ride drop-off and pick-up area! The patience and courtesy demonstrated by our community goes a long way in maintaining a safe environment for all!

A few reminders to help ensure a safe parking lot:

  • Please do not let your child out of the driver's side door. Students need to exit from the passenger side.
  • Drivers using Kiss n Ride must remain in their vehicles.
  • If your child needs assistance with exiting the vehicle, please park in the parking lot to assist your child.
  • Please do not let your child out at the stop sign and please use the Kiss & Ride Lane
  • Please do not let your child exit the vehicle at the stop sign closest to the south side of the church. That pathway is for students who are walking from Clarkson Road.
  • Parents are not to be parking on the south side of the church as it blocks access for the busses and cars for those parking at the church parking lot (North side).
  • Crossing is only allowed at the crosswalk where a staff member can safely guide students to the school area.

National Sweater Day

National Sweater Day is Thursday February 5th, 2026

This day is an opportunity to raise awareness about climate change and energy conservation, and show how together – classroom by classroom, school by school – we can be a part of the solution. Make an impact beyond National Sweater Day by asking students to reflect on their personal carbon footprint and make personal commitments in their own lives to help keep climate change in check. Collectively, we can have a powerful impact.
Check out the information on the link from WWF. #SweaterDay #TurnDowntheHeat?

Storage/Administration of Medication

If a child is required to bring medication to school, procedures regarding the administration of medication shall only be adopted:

· when requested by the parents/guardians; and

· when authorized by a physician; and

· when medication must be provided during school hours

A designated staff member must administer medication; hence, a signed request/authorization form from the parents/guardians and the supervising physician, must be obtained. These forms are available through the school office. Parents are responsible for ensuring that all medication and forms are updated annually. If your child requires medication please have all pertinent forms completed and returned with the medication to the office as soon as possible

All medication will be housed in a safe location. Medication must not be kept in the child’s possession or in the classroom except for EpiPens and asthma inhalers.

It is highly encouraged that students who have an anaphylactic allergy or who have asthma, keep their epi-pen and/or inhaler on their person at all times. If able, it is recommended that your child bring two EpiPens and/or two asthma inhaler to the school. This would allow your child to keep this medication on their person as well as ensuring that the school office has an additional set of medication.

Please note that school staff cannot dispense medication of any kind without the proper physician authorization and a properly labeled container, (i.e. prescription bottle or original over the counter container).
