Green Up Walden This Friday! Green Up Walden This Friday!

zoom_out_map

Students from grades PreK through 8th grade will all be participating in Green Up Day activities this Friday afternoon to help beautify Walden. While grades PreK and K will be staying on campus, the 1st-8th will be walking the local area with the help of our Walden Town Clerk, Debbie Messier. Students will meet with Debbie in the multi-purpose room at 1pm to gather up supplies and talk about safety first before heading out to clean up the streets!

Parents are invited to come join us and lend a hand in this Spring cleaning. Please let Ms. Victoria know in the office if you will be joining us so that she can verify that you have the proper paperwork in place to volunteer to join our classes.

Yesterday, Bill Half, owner of Harvest Hill Farm, came to Walden School to work with our 5th grade students. After a great discussion in the classroom they went outside to start planting their pumpkins that they will transplant on the farm at the end of this month and then harvest at the beginning of next school year. Bill will be coming back into school to do the same thing with the 1st and 2nd graders to start planting their potatoes. We are so grateful for Bill giving our students this hands on learning opportunity right here in our local community!

A Special Message from the Parents of the PTA A Special Message from the Parents of the PTA

Greetings Walden School Families,

Next Week, May 8-12th, is Teacher Appreciation Week! This is a great opportunity to share your gratitude for all of our teachers. We invite you all - parents and students - to consider sharing your thanks next week in a way that makes sense for your family. Whether that is through a personal note, a homemade treat, some flowers, a gift card, or some other thoughtful gesture, what's most important is that our teachers know we appreciate their hard work and dedication.

It’s lovely to remember Sabrina, the bus-driver, the specialty class teachers, special ed teachers, intervention teachers, paraeducators, custodians, Ms. Victoria and all staff at the school…..Everyone at Walden Elementary works with their whole heart - it’s our job to see that, and to say thanks!

Open Board Seat on the CCSD Board Open Board Seat on the CCSD Board

After the recent election, there still remains an open board seat on the Caledonia Cooperative School Board. The School Board holds the authority to appoint a candidate to fill the vacancy and is seeking to do so as soon as possible so that Walden School has 3 representatives just like Barnet and Waterford. If you are interested in filling the open seat (3 year appointment), please contact Mr. Fontana as soon as possible. The next board meeting is Monday, May 8th at Walden School starting at 6pm. I would invite you to notify Mr. Fontana of your interest before that time or to come to the meeting if you are interested in learning more about the board's operation.

New Basketball Elective is a Slam Dunk with Students! New Basketball Elective is a Slam Dunk with Students!

This past Monday, we kicked off the new basketball elective with a visit from Mr. Fontana to talk about sportsmanship and the importance of it throughout his professional athletic career. Students then performed a pre-assessment of foul shot makes in 10 attempts and layups made in 2 minutes. And with Mrs. Russell leading this elective class, students will be tracking this data and putting their math skills to use to create SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely) basketball goals over the next 6 weeks.
