MESSAGE FROM MS LINDA
Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whānau o te Oratia. Talofa lava. Malo e lelei. Zdravo. Ni hao. Namaste. Kamusta. Greetings Oratia whānau and families.
What beautiful weather we have been blessed with this week as our Tuakana students and teachers are away at Camp Bentzon on Kawau Island in the Hauraki Gulf. Kath Goldsmith has been at camp all week supporting the team at camp. Wednesday is swap over day for the two groups. Being out on the water on the ferry, and being able to use kayaks, sailing boats and hand-built rafts is part of the fun of the week. There is jumping off the wharf, archery, orienteering and a confidence course among other activities, so I am sure that the week will pass quickly for all involved. I am heading out to the camp for a visit on Thursday and taking Micheal King, our Board deputy presiding member, with me, so he can experience how great the setting is for himself.
Over the past few weeks we have been hosting quite a number of student teachers from various universities, and they have been observing in classes and teaching groups of our students. It is really great to be able to contribute to their training, and I wanted to thank all our Oratia teachers and staff for their work with them over this time.
Last Friday we celebrated Pink Shirt Day - being an upstander and saying no to bullying. It was so fantastic to see so many of us dressed in shades of pink or wearing some sort of pink accessory to show our commitment to such an important theme. We took a school photo on the field of us all, after the wonderful assembly that Ruma Toru ran where we saw their "Rubbish Wrappers" perform. It was a lovely way to conclude the week.
Take care and stay safe.
Kia kaha, kia atawhai.
Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda
PINK SHIRT DAY
On Friday 15 May the school came together to support Pink Shirt day.
We are so proud of our students for getting involved and showing that together we can help create a culture of acceptance and respect for all.
Here are a few photo's from Tuakana's camp so far. The students have had a fantastic time and thank you to all the parents who attended.
