MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

It has been a very spirited week here at Chardon High School! We are thrilled to announce that state testing is OFFICIALLY OVER!

The prom assembly today was highly entertaining and packed with excellent interview questions, impressive dance moves, and updates from our various spring activities, clubs, and athletic teams.

Looking ahead to a fun-filled weekend for our seniors:

  • Tonight: Senior Movie Night will take place on the football field.
  • Tomorrow: PROM!
  • Saturday night/Sunday morning: AFTER PROM!

I have posted the prom court videos below for you to enjoy. They are very creative, and I especially loved the 80's theme in some of them!

Wishing our seniors a safe and memorable prom weekend!

FROM AFTER PROM

A huge shout out to After Prom for coordinating and funding portions of Staff Appreciation Week. The teachers loved it all. Thank you to Reel’s Auto Sales, Buckeye Chocolate, the iScream Truck, Walmart, Michelle Fisher, Jenifer Goodwin, Shannon Treat and Elizabeth Fullerman for all their help in making it awesome.

Up next, After Prom will host the After Prom event at CHS tomorrow night. Let us know if you want to become involved. We are busy throughout the whole year!

SCHEDULE CHANGE

Due to SENIOR FINALS taking place on Tuesday, May 14th, and Wednesday, May 15th, the entire building, including all students and grade levels, will temporarily return to BLOCK SCHEDULING on those two days. WEDNESDAY, May 14th will be a RED day, and THURSDAY, May 15th will be a BLACK day. This adjustment to the block schedule for these two days will cause the least amount of disruption for our staff and students, given the number of courses with multiple grade levels.

Building Schedule Week of May 05

Monday: White Day

Tuesday: White Day

Wednesday: RED Day

Thursday: Black Day

Friday: White Day

Enjoy your weekend.

Mr. Tomco

HOUSE BILL 96 HOUSE BILL 96

Key concerns include proposed property tax reforms that could accelerate the need to place a new operating levy on the ballot for the public’s consideration, the elimination of Ohio's Fair School Funding Formula which may lead to budget shortfalls, caps on district cash reserves limiting the district's ability to manage finances, and the expansion of public funding for private education.

The district is advocating for local control, engaging with state legislators and professional organizations, and urging community members to voice their concerns to elected officials, emphasizing that HB 96 in its current form is detrimental to public schools.

HB 96 is currently in the Ohio Senate for consideration and is anticipated to be approved by the Governor by June 30, 2025. For a complete overview of the Ohio Budget Process, please visit Ohio Policy Matters Guide to the State Budget HERE.

Please do not hesitate to contact our office with any questions concerning the status of HB 96.

FINAL SCHEDULE - May 19 to May 23 FINAL SCHEDULE - May 19 to May 23

FINAL SCHEDULE CLARIFICATION: Please be aware of the expectations of study halls during finals week:

  • Late Start/Early Arrival: If a student has a study hall scheduled for the first period or the last period during finals testing (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), they have the option for a late start (arriving after first period) or an early dismissal (leaving after their last class).

  • Mid-Day Study Halls (Wednesday & Thursday): If a student has a study hall scheduled in the middle of the day (specifically Wednesday, 4th period, or Thursday, 5th period), they are required to remain in school for the duration of that study hall. Late arrival or early dismissal is not permitted for mid-day study halls.

We hope this clarifies the expectations for study hall attendance during finals week. Please plan accordingly.

AUBURN JUNIORS

During Finals week, ALL JUNIORS WHO ATTEND AUBURN, will return to CHS and take their finals in the PM. If you do not have a sheduled final that day, you DO NOT have to report back to CHS.

SENIOR HANDBOOK 2025

TIKTOK PRANK - TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT TIKTOK PRANK - TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Students nationwide have been observed inserting graphite from pencils, aluminum foil, or paper clips into the USB ports of their Chromebooks. The Chromebooks short-circuit and potentially catch fire with a chance the battery explodes. This prank is not isolated to Chromebooks but is the most popular device since Chromebooks are in over 65% of schools nationally.

Devices turned in for any issues related to this TikTok prank will be referred to building administration and may be subject to vandalism of school property. This is a serious issue which can render the Chromebook device unrepairable. Additionally, some Ohio school districts have spoken with local law enforcement and informed students that incidents occurring inside a school facility may also be subject to arson charges.

Area districts have experienced issues from a "couple" to a "dozen or so" affect Chromebooks.

A novel approach taken by a local teacher was to lead a classroom discussion and demonstration of the prank. He started with, "Now take out your phones..."

ACT REPORTS/TESTING UPDATES

ACT student reports have been sent home with students through their US History (10th grade) and Government (11th grade) social studies classes. Scores can also be accessed through the My ACT account that students set up prior to testing. If your student does not have a social studies class at CHS, they can pick up the report in the counseling office.

For current 11th grade students who want to increase their ACT score, it is highly recommended that they sign-up to take another ACT on one of the National Test Dates this spring, summer and/or early fall. HERE is the ACT website where students can register to take another ACT.

The ACT has made major changes to its test beginning this month including the option to test online on Saturday (National) test dates, reducing the number of questions per section, and making the science subtest optional, to name a few. HERE is an article with all the details.

AUBURN SIGNING DAY

On Monday, May 5th, 60 students were recognized for their acceptance and commitment to 21 different programs at Auburn Career Center during the Auburn Signing Day event. We are excited for the many opportunities that await these students at Auburn and beyond!

Thank you to Mrs. Barb Gordon, Mr. David Leone, and their student presenters for putting on this event to celebrate these students' achievements!
