Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!

Next week, May 4th-May 8th, we look forward to recognizing several important groups of staff members who make a difference in the lives of our students each and every day.

During Teacher Appreciation Week, we celebrate the dedication, care, creativity, and hard work of all the educators who support our students each day. This includes not only our classroom teachers, but also our paraeducators, recess teachers, lunchroom staff, intervention staff, and specialists who help create safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments for students throughout the school day. Whether working in classrooms, on the playground, in the lunchroom, or in small groups, these staff members build meaningful relationships with students and play an essential role in helping every child learn, grow, and feel connected at school.

We will also celebrate School Lunch Hero Day on May 1, recognizing our amazing nutrition services team. From preparing meals to greeting students with a smile, they play an important role in helping our students feel cared for and ready to learn each day.

On May 6, we will recognize School Nurse’s Day and thank our school nurse for the compassion, care, and support they provide to students, families, and staff throughout the year.

We are incredibly fortunate to work alongside such dedicated professionals who contribute so much to our school community.

Families often ask how they can show appreciation to staff members, and the meaningful gestures are often the simplest ones. A kind note, a thoughtful email, words of encouragement, drawings from students, or simply taking a moment to say “thank you” can go a long way in making someone feel appreciated—not just next week, but all year long.

Thanks to a Kiwanis Grant, our Kindergarten students recently enjoyed a special visit from the Tacoma Nature Center. During this hands-on experience, students explored the fascinating world of “city critters”—animals that live right alongside us in the city. Through interactive learning stations, students discovered that not all wildlife lives in the wild. Many species have adapted remarkably well to city life. Thank you Kiwanis for providing us with this amazing opportunity.

Each spring we ask parents to complete an Intent to Return Survey to let us know your family’s intentions for the next school year. By completing this survey, you are helping us plan for future staffing, supplies, class rosters, and curriculum.
