THE PRINCIPAL CHRONICLES
The Principal Chronicles continue ...
As I write this, it is Tuesday on the last full week of school. There are so many strange emotions that I am currently feeling. On one hand, I am excited to move up into a new role and accept some new challenges. On the other hand, it is extremely hard to move away from the students and the many relationships I have formed during the last 12 years.
In addition to that, we are currently going through the process to find a new principal for this building. Now that is a surreal experience and not one that I was prepared for. I have tried really hard to stay out of the way and let the hiring team do their job. I completely trust the process but it doesn't make it any less strange. I am guessing it is the exact same feeling as when my daughter gets married in the year 3546. Like with my daughter, I have poured my heart and soul into this building. Stayed up late at night, got up really early and did my absolute very best to mold and shape this building into what it is today. In the end, all I have ever wanted was for the students of Cherokee Trail was to love coming to school.
I also wanted that very same thing for all of the staff at Cherokee Trail. Many days have been hard, and I have had to deliver more tough conversations than I can count, but there have been so many more wonderful days filled with teaching magic, big smiles, and watching teachers do what they do best. Apparently, these last few days here are making me really reflect and wax nostalgic but I truly love this place, these students, the community, and most importantly, the staff. They have made the building what it is today. It is going to be an emotional few weeks to say the least.
On the home front, my one and only is home and in full summer mode. By summer mode, I mean sitting in front of the television doing absolutely nothing. She keeps telling me that she was SO BUSY in college that she needs time to recover. Are wondering what recovering looks like? Well, it looks exactly like someone sitting on the couch all day, eating snacks while watching TV, while on her phone, while working on her computer, while also playing a game on her computer. For someone who needs to recover, it is amazing the amount of sensory input she can upload into her brain at one time.
The good news is that after spending a week at home, she can finally get back to work. She will start back at Aerie at the mall, but since she needs more money (doesn't she always), she has been Instacarting as well as looking for a new job. According to her, finding a job is super easy, and she has never had a problem doing so. I guess that is good news, but I will believe how "easy" it is once she has actually obtained said job. Outside of that, she has decided to live one week at my house and the next week at her mom's house. Basically, that means she will live in one place until she either runs out of food or we make her clean her room, then it is time for her to go to the other person's house.
To her credit, she has been cooking her own food and doing her best version of cleaning up each day. I guess I should be happy that instead of dishes left all over the house, now all of the dishes are stacked up in the sink. Progress. Slow but definitely progress.
That is it for this week's episode, stay tuned for next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
