Lambda Eta Sigma
Eligibility Criteria
Seniors,
As some of you are asking clarifying questions about Lambda Eta Sigma, I wanted to reach out to all of you to ensure that you're aware of the eligibility criteria. One aspect is your cumulative attendance (9th-12th), so being mindful of this now is important!
Lambda Eta graduates are well rounded individuals who truly represent everything it means to be a member of our Lakeland TRIBE. They are more than just their academics; they strive to be exemplary citizens in all facets of Lakeland life.
Since the honor was first presented in 2019, there have been a total of 56 Lambda Eta Sigma graduates. Last year, we had 8 seniors who met all the criteria for the award. How many will there be among the Class of 2027? I'm excited to find out!
Cheers,
Mrs. Wengert
Eligibility Criteria: Scholarship + TRIBE
To receive this honor, students must meet 6 criteria across grades 9-12, and apply in the spring of senior year to be considered. The criteria are below, reflecting Scholarship + TRIBE values. Please review them and feel free to reach out to me with questions.
- Scholarship - The student must earn at least 27 credits.
- Trustworthy - The student must maintain at least a 95% attendance rate. (You can see Mrs. Wengert or Mrs. Aubrey in the Counseling Office to calculate your 9th-11th average attendance.)
- Respectful - The student must have received 0 office disciplinary referrals.
- Involved - The student must have completed at least 60 hours of community service, with 20 of those hours taking place outside of the Lakeland school district; and the student must have participated in at least 6 extracurricular activities for at least 2 years.
- Brave - The student must have completed at least 3 capstone courses (see list below).
- Excellence - The student must have maintained at least 1 leadership position in an extracurricular activity for at least 1 year.
Capstone Courses
*Dual Enrollment Courses
Please note: Dual Enrollment courses do not count as Capstone Courses for purposes of the Lambda Eta Sigma distinction.
Why? Capstone Courses are intended to represent a culminating experience in a student’s studies at Lakeland. While Dual Enrollment courses can provide valuable academic rigor and challenge, they do not necessarily represent the culmination of a multi-year course of study within a particular discipline.
The Lambda Eta Sigma distinction is designed to recognize sustained, multi-year achievement within the Lakeland community.
