Low Ash Primary
Weekly round up
9.1.26
We were delighted to welcome all our families back to school on Monday after the holiday break. It has been wonderful to see our pupils return with such enthusiasm to learn. This first week has been full of exciting activities, especially with our Art and DT units of work, and our staff have been working hard to ensure a smooth transition back into school routines. We look forward to another successful term where every pupil can be the best that they can be, thriving both inside and outside the classroom.

Attendance update - Important Updates
Every day in school counts. National data shows that:
- 83.9% pupils with 100% attendance met the expected standard at the end of Key Stage 2 and 21.8% of these pupils reached the higher standard
- Only 40.2% pupils with less than 90% attendance met the expected standard at the end of Key Stage 2 and 2.5% reached the higher standard
- Pupils with 95-100% attendance were 1.3 x more likely to meet the expected standard than those with 90-95% attendance.
It doesn't end there. The impact continues when pupils get to their GCSEs.
- Where a pupil had 100% attendance, 83.7% achieved grades 4-9 in English and Maths whereas only 34% pupils with less than 90% attendance achieved these grades
- Roughly 13 days of absence between the Years 7 and 11 can equate to a 1 grade decrease in attainment
For the first time in a number of years our attendance is starting to fall below the National average. For that reason, we have looked at how we celebrate attendance in school and how we are going to try and promote better attendance moving forwards.
Attendance rewards:
Every week, any child who has got 100% attendance, will be entered into a prize draw to win a £5 Amazon voucher (there will be one prize for EYFS/KS1 and one prize for KS2)
At the end of the half term, there will be a further prize draw. Pupils who have achieved 100% attendance for the half term will have their name entered into the draw 3 times, those who have above 96% attendance will have their name entered 2 times and those whose attendance has improved on the previous half term will have their name entered into the draw once. The prize at the end of each half term will be a £10 Amazon voucher. There will be one prize for EYFS, one prize for KS1, one prize for Lower KS2 and one prize for Upper KS2.
In addition to this, every week, the class with the highest attendance will earn a reward of an extra playtime (or indoor free time if that is their preference!)
Home visits
If your child is absent from school for three consecutive days, even if due to illness, a member of our safeguarding team will visit your home. This visit is a supportive measure designed to keep the lines of communication open between school and family, and to offer any help or guidance needed to make your child’s return to school as smooth as possible. Our priority is to ensure every pupil feels supported and confident to re-engage with their learning. We have spoken to other schools who have introduced this measure and it has been very successful.
This week's school attendance is: 96.4%.
This year's attendance to date is 94.8%.
Early Years & KS1 class of the week is Reception Base 1 with 99.6%.
KS2 classes of the week are 3M and 5CS with 99.2%.
A reminder that, as a school, we are aiming for no less than 96% attendance.
Welcome Mrs Turley
This week we welcome Mrs Turley, our new Inclusion Leader to Low Ash. Mrs Turley is an experienced SENDCo and comes to us with a wealth of experience from other Bradford schools. You will often see Mrs Turley out and about in the mornings before school and at the end of the day.
