Jen Furkas- RCHS Principal

My name is Jen Furkas and I am honored and proud to be the principal of Riverview Community High School! The 2023-2024 school year will be my 27th in public education. I have a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts from Eastern Michigan University & taught middle school for two years there before returning to my alma mater Southgate Anderson High School to teach Social Studies and English. At SAHS I met my husband, Ryan, and we've been married for twenty years. I've never experienced a community like Riverview, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to work with and for you. We are a community that is steeped in Pirate pride with hard working educators who love our kids. My goal is to get to know all of you by being an approachable, supportive, and collaborative partner in this important work we do for our students and community. Go Pirates!

Ryan DiBrano- Assistant Principal

Welcome back Pirates, to the 2023-2024 school year at RCHS. Whether you are a first time Pirate or returning to our district we want to welcome you. My name is Ryan DiBrano and I am the Assistant Principal at Riverview Community High School. This school year will be my 11th at RCHS and my second as an administrator. I earned my teaching degree and my second master's degree in Educational Leadership from EMU. As a graduate of RCHS, I was aware of the excellent reputation that RCHS held in the Downriver community, and I am committed to playing an active role in maintaining and enhancing that reputation. My commitment to student safety, health, and education is unwavering, and I am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of the exceptional educational program we offer at Riverview Community School District.

Derrick DiBrano- Athletic Director

I'm a lifelong Pirate and proud ’01 graduate of RCHS where I lettered in football, basketball and baseball. The life lessons and positive relationships that I cultivated playing sports molded me into the person that I am today. After high school, I attended EMU for my bachelor’s and master’s degrees and then returned to Riverview as a teacher. Prior to becoming AD, I coached football, basketball, track, baseball, and softball at a variety of levels. As Athletic Director, it is my hope to instill the same tradition and Pirate Pride to our current Riverview student-athletes. This is a special community & I am proud to be a member of it.

Student Drop-off/Pick-up

For security purposes, at 7:40am, all RCHS doors will be locked for the school day. Students that arrive after class begins should be dropped off at the main/student lot entrance since they must sign in with the office. Please continue to use the student entrance off Krause and the Longsdorf entrances for general drop-off/pick-up locations before and after school. Students may be dropped off in the horseshoe, but since these doors are locked in the morning they will need to walk around to the Longsdorf entrance.

When students need to leave the building prior to the end of the school day, they should also stop by the main office to sign out before exiting.

All students who are not under the direct supervision of a coach or teacher should leave the building by 3:00.

New backpack / book bag policy

Like many other school districts and entertainment venues across the country, RCHS has decided to adopt a no backpack/book bag policy in all classrooms and the cafeteria during the school day. Students can bring their bag to school, but are expected to store them in their locker until they leave for the day. Improving security factored into this decision, we are also trying to prevent clogged walkways and chronic back pain later in life for our growing students. Thank you, in advance, for supporting our efforts to keep our students safe.

Research shows that student growth suffers if they miss more that 10% of the school year. This September RCSD will be celebrating Attendance Awareness Month with incentives for those who make it a priority to attend regularly and participate in their learning. Families play an important role in ensuring kids come every day. Please continue to stress the importance of regular attendance and future success.

Chromebook Protection Policy

The technology department distributed Chromebooks and chargers to all 9th graders during today's Freshman Orientation. School issued Chromebooks are considered an essential part of our day to day curriculum, include necessary platforms for testing and submissions, and required for all courses.

  • NO payment is required to receive a Chromebook but if the device is damaged or lost, there will be up to a $300.00 fee per the agreement form required in Powerschool.
  • COMPLETE the RCSD Chromebook form located on your PowerSchool parent account under Forms/General Forms tab so your student can receive their Chromebook.
  • The district will no longer be able to cover intentional or accidental damage to a student's device; therefore, families can opt to enroll in the Chromebook Protection Plan. This $25 annual fee protects families from unexpected costs to repair a damaged device. Parents can find more information and the enrollment forms under the Technology Department on the district's webpage.

School Pictures / IDs

Thank you to all of our students who had their pictures taken today; you looked great! If you missed it, the makeup day will be October 12. Unfortunately, Josten's was unable to print the IDs so students will receive these next week.

Parents of RCHS Athletes:

The Athletic Department at Riverview Community Schools now hosts their Athletic Participation Forms online with BigTeams. This digital platform will allow you, and your student(s), to complete and access athletic forms via computer, tablet, or mobile phone. It is HIPAA, COPPA and FERPA compliant.

ALL PARTICIPATING ATHLETES AND PARENTS OF ATHLETES MUST CREATE AN ACCOUNT AND COMPLETE THE MANDATORY ONLINE FORMS!

The physical form must now be completed through your account, no more paper physicals will be accepted. The only page of the physical form that will need to be uploaded is the page that I have attached. All sections of this page MUST be filled out completely, the physician’s signature and date of exam are REQUIRED, if either is missing, the physical will be denied. The other page of the form can be filled out and signed electronically through your BigTeams account.

Please remember, athletes cannot participate without a physical or the mandatory forms completed and/or signed, so get them done before the season starts!
