Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
Tonight, from 5:30 to 7 pm, Hallinan is hosting STEAM Night and we are all so excited to welcome you and your children to our fun-filled event! Want to build an airplane? Create a marble maze? Try your hand at cup stacking? As you journey through classrooms and spaces at Hallinan you will discover science, technology, engineering, art and math activities designed to engage and inspire students and their families. (All students must accompanied by a guardian.)
Last week, Music teacher, Mr Haynor and Ms Dunne, Ms Franz and Mrs Wetzel's 4th Grade Classes performed Pirates! The Musical, a wonderful tale of a salty crew! Click HERE to watch the amazing performance and HERE to view great photos. Thank you to our parent volunteers who helped with costumes, sets and photography!
Another thank you and a huge shoutout to Mrs Landau, our wonderful Librarian. She introduces interesting books to students every single day. See below for a complete list of books and topics for this month. The number of children she has inspired and influenced over the many years of extraordinary service is astounding! It's National Library week and the perfect time to remind everyone to read a good book and thank their Librarian. :)

In the Library with Mrs Landau
In April, we studied COURAGE which is choosing what is helpful, right and kind even when it's hard or scary, and these are the fabulous books that Mrs Landau shared with students: Sheila Rae, The Brave by Kevin Henkes, Courage by Bernard Waber and Courage Hats by Kate Hoefler.
Mrs Landau also read What do You do with a Problem? by Kobi Yamada to celebrate Ole Kirk Christiansen's birthday (Lego Inventor!), The Watcher - Jane Goodall's life with the Chimps by Jeanette Winter to celebrate Jane's birthday, and M is for Majestic by David Domeniconi as it was National Park Week this week. So many good books!!!
Flexible Seating Thank You!

Action Item - Verify/Update Your Information
It's time to verify your information in our system. Has anything changed since you last checked? Forty-four of our high school students have a "nanny" or "childcare provider" listed as their emergency contact. Funny, right? Please log into the system and check so we have your current information - for your child's sake!
Log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." Contact your student's school if you need clarification on whether you have a ParentVUE account. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.
Parent Input Form - Families are welcome to provide input regarding their child’s learning environment. Input on this form will be given to a team (the principal and teachers) who will work collaboratively to place students in well balanced classrooms. Forms are due to the Office or gatesl@loswego.k12.or.us by Friday, May 12, 2023.

Missoula Children's Theater
This a reminder that MCT permission slips need to be turned in to your child's teacher or to the office. Auditions will be Monday, May 1st right after school.
- Students, age 5-7, should expect to be picked up at 5 pm.
- Students, age 8 and older, up will only need a ride home if they do not get a part. Students with a part in the play will stay until 7:15.
- Kids will have access to a phone to contact parents if needed.
We have heard amazing things about the Missoula directors and their audition process. All kids who choose to audition will have a real theater experience and work with these directors for two hours. We hope that many kids grow from this experience and pursue their artistic dreams!

Hallinan Gear Swap - Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who donated to/volunteered for/shopped Hallinan's first annual Gear Swap in March! We raised a little over $600 for the PTO/5th Grade Celebration team. Donations not sold during the Gear Swap were donated to Shifting Gears/Gifting Gears (https://www.shiftinggearsgiftinggear.org/) and the public was invited to come "shop" for free gear in conjunction with Lakeridge Middle School's Sustainability Resource Fair. It was amazing to see the ripple effects of everyone's donations...thank you again!
Thank you for helping our community thrive!!!

How to Find Your Child's iReady Report
iReady assessments, a diagnostic tool for the purpose of providing specific data to assist in instructional planning have been posted to ParentVUE. This tool measures student performance linked to end-of-year standards. We use these scores in conjunction with class work as well as daily, weekly, monthly and term assessments to identify students' strengths and areas for improvement. You can find iReady reports by clicking on this link: ParentVUE and then on the documents tab.
Oregon State Assessment Opt-Out Form
Each school year, Oregon students take assessments to meet federal requirements. The purpose of these assessments is to provide data that schools can use to ensure that every child is on track and achieving learning goals.
State law requires us to inform you that a form is available from the State Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of the math and English Language Arts assessments for the current school year. Should you wish to opt out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office at your child’s school. Please note the submission deadlines listed on the form. Meeting the deadline will help the school with planning and preparation. If you wish your child not to participate in the science assessment for grades 5, 8, and 11, submit this request in writing to the principal of your child's school.
If you have questions or want more information about state assessments, please contact your child’s principal or teacher(s).
Click here for opt-out form for Math and English Language Arts.
OSAS Schedule and Reminders: Oregon State Assessment will take place in April and May, refer to the chart below for details. Teachers will also be sending out information in their newsletters.
Prepare your student for testing by ensuring:
They are well rested
Have healthy breakfast, lunch and snack options
CHARGED chromebook
Encouragement - we believe in them!
If a student has a smartphone or watch, these will need to be kept in backpacks during testing as access to them creates an impropriety, per state assessment regulations.

Safe Oregon
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal and maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/
