Education Code - Did you know?
Safety FIRST - Education Code 48908 and 48900 (t)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
At Mayfair, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are reaching out to remind you of the serious risks associated with students running toward or gathering around altercations on campus. These behaviors not only create an unsafe environment but also violate the standards and expectations set forth by Bellflower Unified School District Board Policy and California Education Code.
Bellflower Unified School District Board Policy emphasizes maintaining a secure and orderly learning environment, ensuring that students and staff are protected from disruptive and potentially dangerous situations. Under Education Code 48908, students are required to follow the directions of teachers and staff in order to maintain a safe and orderly school environment. Furthermore, Education Code 48900(t) explicitly states that aiding or abetting physical violence is a suspendable offense.
To ensure a safe campus, the school will take immediate and appropriate action against any student involved in such incidents. We will utilize all tools at our disposal to enforce disciplinary consequences. Any student who chooses to engage in, participate in, or contribute to these situations may face serious repercussions, including:
Removal from co-curricular activities
Suspension
Potential expulsion
It is imperative that students understand running to an altercation is never the right response. There are always responsible adults on campus who can assist, and students should seek out a teacher, staff member, or security personnel if they witness a situation that requires intervention.
Additionally, if a student is found surrounding an altercation, they may be considered as aiding and abetting the situation, which will also result in consequences. When administrators and security arrive at the scene, students are expected to leave the area immediately and follow all instructions given by school staff.
We ask for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your child. By working together, we can maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for all students.
Thank you for your support and cooperation in prioritizing student safety. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Sincerely,
Mayfair Administration Team
