NJAHS UPDATE!

Attention National Jr. Art Honor Society Members:

Remember, we will NOT have a meeting after school on Wednesday this week or next week due to testing. Please make sure you are prepared for the art show/induction ceremony, which is on Tuesday, May 26th. Please come prepared with up to 3 art pieces you would like displayed at the show (if you didn't already give them to Mrs. Van Ness). Your pieces MUST be turned in by next Thursday, 5/21, in order to be included in the show. Please see Mrs. Van Ness this week if you need an art shirt or an invitation to the induction ceremony/art show.

SPORTS

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Boys Volleyball practice will begin on May 5th and be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Students must have a sports physical completed and be cleared on Big Teams or Arbiter to participate.

GIRLS GOLF INTEREST!

We are looking for new golfers in the Socastee attendance area! Female students in grades 7 & 8 are able to participate in the May practices. 6th grade students will have to wait until June. All interested girls should fill out the Golf Interest Form below.

NURSE, LIBRARY AND TECHNOLOGY

Breakfast and lunch are available to all our students free of charge. Please encourage your child to start each morning with a healthy breakfast. Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. Your student may want to bring an extra set of clothes in the event of a spill, wardrobe malfunction, or dress code violation. We are unable to provide clothing to students.

**Parents: Tdap vaccines are due for all rising 7th grade students statewide. Please talk with your child's pediatrician to book an appointment for the required vaccine.

Due to the statewide demand, appointments may be difficult to obtain. Please do not wait until the last minute. Students who do not have a Tdap vaccine by the first day of the 2026-2027 school year will be unable to attend class per the SC Department of Health guidelines. Vaccine records can be emailed or dropped off to the school nurse.

ALL students who are given permission to recieve a PDL device during the registration process will be issued a laptop AND charger during the first week of school. If they did not recieve permission during registration, a permission form will be sent home with them and must be signed and returned before they will be issued a device. Students who join us at FMS after the first week of school will receive a PDL device within 24-48 hours of their arrival.

If you have not yet paid the technology fee for the 25-26 school year, the fee can be paid by sending the money in with your student to our bookkeeper. Their device will have to be inspected prior to payment to assure damage does not already exist. This tech fee helps to lower the cost of repairs should your student damage their device. Example: 1st Damage if your tech fee is paid - $25; 1st Damage if your tech fee is NOT paid - full cost of repair (anywhere between $30 - $400).

If your student does not receive a device, they may owe fines from a previous year. You should have received an email, letter and/or phone call with this information. Payments may be sent to school with your student and given to the bookkeeper or the fine can be paid on MyPaymentsPlus.com. If you wish to turn in a missing/lost device that you have been charged for, the fine can be removed.

All students in Horry County Schools will receive free breakfast and lunch for the upcoming 2025-26 school year as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.

Students will still have the option to purchase additional meals, food & snack items, and beverages at à la carte prices. À la carte items can be paid for in cash or by prepayment on the student’s cafeteria account. Charging for à la carte sales is not allowed. Prepayments can be made by cash or check at your child’s school cafeteria or with a debit card by setting up an account at myschoolbucks.com. Any charges remaining on a student’s cafeteria account from a prior school year are still the parent’s responsibility. If needed, payment arrangements for larger balances can be made by contacting the school cafeteria manager.
