The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Community Update
December 8, 2024
Dear CES SHARKS & Friends,
Our students were thrilled to see the first snow flurries this past week. The drop in temperatures is a reminder that it winter is here to stay for the next few months. Please ensure that your student(s) are dressed appropriately for the weather. Each classroom tries to get outdoors for at least 25 minutes of fresh air time. If your student(s) are in need of outdoor winter clothing (hats, gloves, coats, boots) please contact Nurse Heidi hfrench@monomoy.edu or myself jakelly@monomoy.edu.
December is an exciting time at CES. Students will receive their Term 1 report cards on Friday, December 13th. Friday is also the start of the Chatham Christmas by the Sea Stroll Weekend. There are a number of events for all over the weekend. On Friday, we hope you can join us at 5:30 pm for the Children's Light Parade. The parade kicks off at the Chatham Recreation Department (702 Main Street) and travels to the town triangle for the lighting of the town tree. The tree is decorated by ornaments created by our CES SHARKS and our Grade 3/4 Chorus will be performing a number of holiday songs at the event. We hope you can join us for some holiday cheer! Chorus students will receive more detailed information regarding the event in a separate email from Mr. Toppa.
Wishing you peace and joy,
Dr. Kelly
MRSD POG Video Series: Creative and Critical Thinkers
Monomoy's Portrait of a Graduate is a collection of skills, attributes, and characteristics that we are committed to developing in each of our students from preschool through to graduation. The POG Video Series highlights the four pillars of our Portrait of a Graduate and how students from preK through 12th grade are experiencing them.
You can view the first video on Creative and Critical Thinkers by clicking the link/button below. You will see many familiar faces in just the first few seconds of the video!
3rd Grade Creative and Critical Thinkers
In Ms. Macomber's STEM class, our 3rd graders are traveling the state of Massachusetts. This week's stop was in the heart of ski country at Mount Wachusett. Ms. Macomber challenged the students to create a ski lift to transport popsicle stick people up the mountainside. Our SHARKS tackled the problem with great cheer and created some amazing products. Thank you Ms. Macomber for making learning so fun!!

CES PTO Updates
The CES PTO held a meeting on Tuesday, November 19th. Thank you to all those who were able to attend - it was great to see some new faces! If you would like to be part of the PTO mailing list, please click on this PTO sign up form. You will receive information about all upcoming events. Every parent/caregiver is welcome, and encouraged, to join the PTO.
PTO meetings take place at 6:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month in the CES Media Center. Zoom links will be provided to those who cannot attend in person. Our next meeting is January 14, 2025. There will be no December PTO meeting.
The PTO is also looking for room parents. Room parents coordinate with the classroom teacher for special school wide events, field trips, and class activities. Room parents will also represent classrooms at PTO meetings and share information between the PTO and classroom families. You can express your interest in becoming a room parent by filling out the PTO sign up form above.
The Grinch Holiday Fundraiser The next big PTO event will be on Saturday, December 14th. The annual holiday film showing during the Chatham Stroll. For a $10 admission, students and friends can join us for a viewing of Dr. Seuss's The Grinch. Students receive a juice box, water, and bag of pretzels with their ticket. The theater concession stand is also open for students who may want to purchase a popcorn or other snack.
Chaperones will be on hand to watch the kids, so parents and guardians can drop off the kids and grab a coffee, run errands, or shop the Chatham Stroll. Please see the flyer below for more information about the event.

Reminders for Families
Please call the Main Office at 508-945-5135 or use Pick Up Patrol to report student absences. Our classroom teachers are often unable to check their email prior to the start of school and the Main Office and Nurse's Office don't learn of the email before they begin calling home. Contacting the Main Office or using Pick Up Patrol are the best ways to inform the school of an absence.
