Understanding School Attendance ๐ซ
Maysville R-1 students are in session for a total of 150 school days per school year.
Our district goal is to have every student in attendance at least 95% of the time.
This would mean all students are in attendance for at least 142.5 days, allowing for 7.5 days of absences for the school year, or roughly 3-4 days per semester.
90% attendance of 150 days is 135 days. Being absent 10% of those 150 days is equal to 15 days of absences, or roughly 7-8 per semester.
Missing that many days of school in a single school year can be damaging to students and their academic growth, social emotional development, and behavior. See the image below for more information on how absences can really add up, and not in a good way!
Remember, we want to see Every Wolverine, Every Day! ๐

Maysville Elementary ๐
Message from the Principal ๐ฌ
Our teachers have been working together to identify the essential standards in English Language Arts (ELA) for each grade level. Simply put, these are the most important reading and writing skills we want every student to learn by the end of the school year.
By focusing on these skills, our teachers can be more intentional with their instruction and provide students with plenty of opportunities to practice and grow. Our goal is for ALL students to master these important skills by the end of the year.
Teachers will also incorporate these skills and related vocabulary into other subjects, such as science, social studies, and math. This helps students see that reading, writing, and communication are important in everything they learn!
I am incredibly proud of the thoughtful work our teachers are doing to focus on what matters most for student learning. Their dedication and collaboration reflect our belief that every student can learn and succeed.
Thank you for partnering with us as we continue building strong readers, writers, and lifelong learners at Maysville Elementary! โค๏ธ๐ค

Maysville JH/HS ๐
JH/HS Wolverine Students and Families,
As we wrap up the first quarter, let's finish strong!
Students, take time to check your grades, turn in missing assignments, and give your BEST effort in every class.
Parents, we encourage you to check Infinite Campus and have conversations with your student about their progress.
Success takes teamwork, accountability, and effort both at school and at home. Let's make every day count and finish the quarter on a positive note!
Remember, BEST means Better Every Single Time! โค๏ธ๐ค

JH Band and Choir Concert
Just a reminder and hoping you already included it on your family calendar that we have a Junior High Band Concert on Tuesday, October 20th at 6pm.
This will be an opportunity for our younger musicians to have a small concert without the other grades. Our JH Choir and Band students are showing their progress over the first 8 weeks of school. Our 7th grade band is making progress after a limited time in class last year and our 8th graders are progressing toward increased skills and individual playing.
We ask that students arrive at 5:40 in the band room and wear red and black clothing. Please no jeans or T-shirts.
This concert will be in the newly updated gym in the high school, old gym. We look forward to a fun evening.
Thanks,
Mr. Bridgman

Wolverines,
We love seeing the school spirit and energy you bring to our student section on Friday nights! However, there was quite a bit of trash left behind after this week's game. We know we can do better!
Let's take pride in our school and facilities by making sure we pick up after ourselves before leaving. It only takes a few seconds to throw away your trash and help keep our student section looking its BEST!
Let's show everyone what Wolverine pride is all about! โค๏ธ๐ค
A Special Shout-Out! ๐
A HUGE thank you to Avery Harms and Jordyn DeWilde who took it upon themselves to stay after the game and help clean up the student section! Nobody asked them to do it, but they saw something that needed to be done and stepped up. THAT is what being a Wolverine is all about! Your leadership, responsibility, and willingness to help did not go unnoticed. Thank you for setting a great example for others!

CharacterStrong Focus
This week in CharacterStrong, our 7th graders will be learning about Perspective Taking, while our 8th graders will focus on Goals & Habits. Both lessons encourage students to become more intentional about their choices, understand themselves and others, and develop skills that will benefit them in everyday life.
What Weโre Learning
7th Grade: Students will explore how our experiences, feelings, and beliefs influence the way we see situations. They'll learn that two people can experience the same event but have very different perspectives. Through discussion and reflection, students will practice considering other viewpoints, avoiding assumptions, and responding with empathy. We'll emphasize that understanding someone's perspective doesn't always mean agreeing with them!
8th Grade: Students will explore how their daily habits influence their ability to reach personal goals. They'll reflect on habits that help or hold them back and learn how small, consistent actions can create meaningful progress. We'll also discuss how goals can involve academics, friendships, hobbies, or personal growth and why progress matters more than perfection.
Why It Matters
Perspective taking helps students build empathy, communicate effectively, and navigate disagreements. Learning to consider different viewpoints can prevent misunderstandings and strengthen relationships.
Goals and habits help students develop responsibility, motivation, and perseverance. Recognizing the connection between everyday choices and long-term goals encourages students to take ownership of their personal growth.
Continue the Conversation at Home
7th: "Can you think of a time when someone saw a situation differently than you? What might have influenced their perspective?"
8th: "What's one goal you'd like to accomplish, and what small habit could help you get there?"
Mrs. Staffordโs Challenge
7th Grade: Before reacting to someone this week, pause and consider their point of view. You might discover something you hadn't thought about!
8th Grade: Choose one positive habit to practice this week. Remember, small steps taken consistently can lead to big changes! โค๏ธ
